Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, Community Fair Celebrating Stanley Boulevard Improvement Project

The community fair starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Shadow Cliffs and the ribbon cutting will be at 11 a.m.

From the Alameda County Public Works Agency:

The Public Works Agency invites you to celebrate the completion of the multi-modal, safety and streetscape improvements project along Stanley Boulevard--a high-volume roadway travelled by approximately 30,000 vehicles daily. The Stanley Boulevard Improvement Project is the first of its kind in the county road system to deploy “green” transportation infrastructure practices that incorporate recycled water for irrigation, recycled asphalt and concrete materials for the multi-use pathway, energy efficient LED streetlights, and bio-swales and filter strips to intercept and filter storm-water runoff.

“The completion of this green project improves the roadway for motorists and now offers a safe and attractive route for bicyclists and pedestrians to connect to the neighboring cities of Livermore and Pleasanton,” said Alameda County Supervisor Scott Haggerty.  “This is also a huge improvement to the Tri-Valley’s network of bicycle, pedestrian and trail systems.”

The newly constructed bike lanes in both directions provide a vital cycling link between the cities of Livermore and Pleasanton. New bus shelters and pedestrian crossing installed along this route improve accessibility and will promote the use of public transit to the East Bay Regional Park District’s Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area.

Separated from the main roadway by a guardrail is a pathway that offers an alternative to the casual cyclist or pedestrian wanting to walk or cycle along the beautiful Shadow Cliffs recreation area.  Plaques featuring historical, botanical, and sustainable practices information have been placed along the pathway to create a more interactive, educational experience.  Benches are installed to provide resting places for those enjoying the pathway.

The public is invited to the celebration of this project’s completion on Saturday, April 13th. A community fair featuring the tri-valley bike lane/trail networks, safety information, and personal sustainability practices will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Shadow Cliffs recreational area.  A formal ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m.  After cutting the ribbon on Stanley Boulevard, attendees are encouraged to join Supervisor Scott Haggerty for a bicycle ride on the new bike lane or a walk along the new multi-modal pathway.

Funding sources for the project included Measure B Funds, the Highway User Tax Account Funds, TFCA Funds from the Bay Area Air Quality Management Department, and contributions from Stopwaste.org and quarry operators in the area.
