POLL: Have You Been Caught Up in the Parking Mess at Dublin-Pleasanton BART?

Surface parking lot closed on Saturday to make way for a construction project, and left drivers sharking for spaces.

This weekend, BART riders used to parking in the north Dublin-Pleasanton BART station lot were shut out, left to scramble for parking spots elsewhere.

The lot closed Saturday to make way for Dublin's Avalon Bay residential development, which was supposed to go in earlier but was delayed because of the sagging economy.

However, a BART alert went out late last week announcing that construction would begin pronto, and that the trusty lot — which existed well before the adjacent 1,500-space garage — would be closed to make way for the development.

The garage will remain open during construction, according to the alert, but there are so many limitations on it that casual drivers (i.e. those who don't have permits) might not be able to find a space. In other words, even before the lot closure, the garage was pretty crowded.

There were reports of people arriving to the lot Monday morning unable to find a space, then driving back home to get someone to drive them back and drop them off.
