Presidential Debate: Live Reaction On Patch

Patch will be hosting a presidential debate viewing party and will gather reactions from our selected group. Chime in here on what you are most looking forward to for Wednesday's debate or what questions you think should be asked.

As the nation gears up for the 2012 presidential debate, Patch wants to know what you're expecting during Wednesday's showdown between President Barack Obama and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

Patch will be holding a debate-viewing event with a select group of community and business leaders.

The panelists will be sharing their reactions to what they hear from the two candidates. We will post those reactions live during the debate, which will be broadcast from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

We will also have a debate wrap-up story afterward with thoughts from our panelists.

When the story is posted don't forget to share your views on how the candidates addressed the issues you care about.

If you're a local business owner and are interested in attending Patch's debate-viewing event contact Patch Associate Regional Editor David Mills at david.mills@patch.com.

So, why are you limiting your panel to a selcet group of business and community leaders? There are seniors and other folks out here with shares in this election!
Brandt Hardin October 1, 2012 at 10:30 pm
Obama is simply going to wipe the floor with him. Romney is a rich pariah who simply can’t identify with ANY average American through his fog of lies and network of havened money. He’ll only continue to get booed out of the room by every group of minority and middle class voters he comes across. His religion and wealth is highly elitist and everyone in this country has had it with his kind. We’re telling Mitt he can’t buy this election! Read about the role of his money and his Magic Mormon Underwear are playing in the polls at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2012/05/mitt-romneys-magic-mormon-underwear.html
Tim October 2, 2012 at 12:10 am
Yea, we've seen how well Obama does off teleprompter... "um... ahh... 57 states... breathalyzer... Navy CorPSmen... The Cambridge police acted stupidly... "
Perhaps when compared with Biden none of this is that bad... lets see..."a three letter word, j-o-b-s"... "Stand up Chuck (he's in a wheelchair)"... says to crowd in SF before NFC title game between NY and SF that "the Giants are going to go to the Superbowl!" And lets not forget "put ya'll back in chains" Speaking of "mop the floor" I can't wait to see Paul Ryan tear apart the dumbest man to serve as VP, formerly the dumbest man ever to serve in the Senate, Joe "Plugs" Biden.
Anita Harness October 2, 2012 at 12:40 am
Derek, you are useful for demonstrating that Patch has no guidelines for its comment stream, yet Patch staff spend hours whining about trollish comments.
Anita Harness October 2, 2012 at 12:43 am
Sad that again we are being limited (by the media) to only seeing the two dumbest candidates debate. I guess they know a 3rd party candidate would show just how ignorant Obama & Romney truly are. Both favor big government. Both are clueless.
Anita Harness October 2, 2012 at 12:51 am
Simon & Garfunkel said it best, "Going to the candidates' debate. Laugh about it. Shout about it. When you've got to choose, every way you look at it you lose."
Mona October 2, 2012 at 01:56 am
I wondered about the panel chosen too. It certainly doesn't represent the average citizen.
Albert Rubio October 2, 2012 at 02:16 am
Bravo! I would just add that the parties are the real origin of monopolizing the media. The media is very complicit. But independent minded people are not confined so much by the media. The internet free of government control continues to have a liberating effect. Beware the regulators.
Imagine if Ron Paul had just 15 minutes to address the nation. Very dangerous for the GOP and even now they are ready to blame the third party if they lose the election which is looking likely IMO.
Fred Eiger October 2, 2012 at 09:29 am
Oh PLEASE PAUL STEWART; "lack of understanding of the trials and tribulations of the common man"??? Are you insane? Barack Hussein Obama has no idea how the economy works and in fact tries to derail it at every opportunity. Obama has an agenda that is against the United States. He's not known as the "Food Stamp President" for nothing. Obama has been a failure as President, everyone knows it, it's just some of us predicted it 4 years ago. The guy NEVER should have been placed in the Presidency nor even given a chance. He's anathema to the United States and all that we stand.
Fred Eiger October 2, 2012 at 09:30 am
Bigoted comment there Brandt, you seem full of hate and anger.
Fred Eiger October 2, 2012 at 09:32 am
Here is the "common man" that Obama seems to represent so thoroughly.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeJbOU4nmHQ

I would also say do not listen to the polls as they can be manipulated as the below article proves:

Hi, Michael and Mona:
We thought it would be interesting to get a focused reaction from community leaders and business owners to this first debate on domestic policy. It was just to try something different. We do want to hear from everybody and we encourage our readers to continue to use this comments section to voice their opinions.
Tim October 2, 2012 at 02:34 pm
Ron Paul has had a chance. You must have amnesia because he participated in the primary debates. I do agree with much of what he says but he does come off as a nut on some issues, particularly national security. As far as Romney losing, yes it's possible. It won't be because of third party. I've read (I think it was on CNN) that they are expecting the smallest percentage of votes for third party in decades.
Steven Jackson October 2, 2012 at 02:40 pm
Obama is a deity and should be left alone. He is the messiah and all that believe will be led to the promised land. All that oppose will be dealt with under Sharia law.
Rob Raistlin October 2, 2012 at 02:51 pm
tim isright. ron paul had his 15 minutes of fame and he drove his campaign in the ditch. albert the third party politics is BS. the librarians are out this time because ron paul got chosen to lead the parade and his own answers crashed the campaign clown car. mitt romney will come out as the one who knows what he is doing and how he can put this country back on track. everyone knows we cant keep babysitting people who dont want to work. all we have to do is show up and vote that clown obama out on his a**

Greetings-
I am curious who are the people will be attending the select group of community and business leaders and how or why they were selected to watch the debate with Patch. Am I the only one who is curious?
David Mills (Editor) October 2, 2012 at 03:05 pm
Hi, Bob:
We sent out a number of invitations to local elected officials, candidates, chamber of commerce officials and local business owners in the San Ramon Valley, Tri-Valley and Tri-Cities areas. We expect about a dozen to be at our event. We have what appears to be a good cross-section of men and women as well as Republicans and Democrats who are deeply involved in their communities. The names of our panel members will be in the articles we post on debate night.
Janice P Ellis October 2, 2012 at 03:19 pm
You can't wait until 'society breaks down'?, Derek? And, nice way to go on the attack against someone who was just stating his viewpoints. Is it too much to ask that you have some respect for the opinions of others, even if you don't share them? It's called maturity.
Classic Bob October 2, 2012 at 03:28 pm
Greetings David-
Thank you for the information!
Tim October 2, 2012 at 04:28 pm
Janice, he's a troll. Why dignify his comment with a response. The real Derek Jeter is the starting shortshop for the NY Yankees; the classiest guy in baseball. This clown above commenting under the name "Derek Jeter" is the anti- Jeter; a cowardly loser who doesn't even deserve the attention. Why elevate is remarks with a response?
Tim October 2, 2012 at 04:30 pm
Please, just have Democrats... or if you're going to have Republicans, at least have some real conservatives (which are hard to find in CA). Please, no David Brooks or Kathleen Parker type RINOs... they don't speak for the Party.
Albert Rubio October 3, 2012 at 01:50 am
You guys take the wrong point every time regarding Paul. he was denied a literal 15 minute speech to the nation during the RNC. Furthemore no speech by Paul could enhance Romney and the GOP knows this. Many Americans if not most of them would have heard Ron Paul for the first time and in an unprecedented 15 minutes uninterrupted.
There should be nothing controversial or biased about what I just explained. Tim, there has been more libertarian discussion and states won by Paul this election than any past. So the CNN commentary is nonsense. You keep using the wrong standards to measure the campaign. You are smart enough to understand this, and I am smart enough to ignore the discussion if you can't.
Mona October 3, 2012 at 11:17 am
Among those eaders the Democrats will point out why everything Obama says is right on track, and the republicans will do the same for Romney. What more can you expect from people elected to office? I think I'll just listen to the debate and decide for myself who made good points, and who goofed or failed to actually answer questions.
Pull on your hip boots folks, the bs will surely be plentiful tonight.
Tim October 3, 2012 at 01:56 pm
Yes, but Ron Paul is not running. I'm sure he'd love to, but he's smart enough to know he'd be destroying his son's political future.
Sid Ward October 3, 2012 at 07:56 pm
It is obvious that you are in a dream world like Obama wants all voter to be in. He not only do not know what he was doing when he got in office but still doesn't but you Liberal fools will never realize that and you love his BS and his promise to "take you to a better place" which he nor you have no idea where that is!!!!
Classic Bob October 3, 2012 at 09:16 pm
Greetings to ALL,
After reading everyone’s comments, it seems everyone is only interested in voting for political party. I know I am repeating myself, but the issues are still issues. Medicare, Social Security, the deficit, jobs and what each candidate's plan is, that is what we should be thinking about. We have a responsibility as voters to ourselves, each other, to our children and their children and so on. We have the responsibility to be fully informed and to share the information with one another to make intelligent decisions. I am waiting to see something of substance from Romney. The only thing I keep hearing from Mitt is what Obama did not succeed at. Once we start hearing the ideas, goals and plans from each candidate we should take the time to investigate and research everything. I don't know about you, but I don’t want to push all my chips forward and vote for either candidate not knowing what I’ll be getting into. I would be putting my children’s future at hazard. I want to be comfortable with my vote and say “alright, I’ll be a part of this plan.” Use FactCHECK.org or any other website which gives you facts without bias. I say forget party lines. Ever since George W’s first term, I abandoned hard party lines in voting. Let us watch the debates with open minds and follow the truth where ever it may take us. If it leads you to vote against your party, whichever it may be, then so be it. i know it's aggravating. I'm ahead of you there.

A great issue! However, the rodeo is nothing but animal cruelty wrapped up as "tradition"Read More and "entertainment". Why would the animal's welfare become a concern now? Rodeo performers have been documented beating, kicking, and shocking normally docile cows and horses in chutes and holding pens. "Bucking broncos" and steers are provoked with electric prods, sharp sticks, caustic ointments, and the pinching "bucking" strap, which is what really makes them jump, they are not "wild" and "dangerous" . The cowboys earn points by spurring the bucking horse. I have seen them up close and many are bleeding. Calves, roped when running, have their necks snapped back by the lasso, often resulting in neck and back injuries, bruises, broken bones, and internal bleeding. After their short and painful "careers," animals in rodeos are sent to the slaughterhouse. Dr. C.G. Haber, a veterinarian who spent 30 years as a federal meat inspector, describes the animals discarded from rodeos for slaughter as being "so extensively bruised that the only areas in which the skin was attached [to the flesh] was the head, neck, leg, and belly. I have seen animals with six to eight ribs broken from the spine and, at times, puncturing the lungs. I have seen as much as 2 to 3 gallons of free blood accumulated under the detached skin." Every national animal protection organization opposes rodeos because of their inherent cruelty. Don't feel bad everyone, I used to love the rodeo too. Before I knew better...

Something to consider and not pushing it aside because I feel its unimportant, but what I'd love toRead More have access to is how the riders that were hurt are doing today. Two bull riders got gored, one in the back and he was down and out for a bit and then obviously not "okay" as he stumbled out of the arena and then another that got his leg hurt and he couldn't get himself over the gate on his own. Left saturday's Rodeo hoping they were okay and would love follow up if at all possible. Thanks!

I got the same thing, no outages when I called. I requested to be contacted by PG&E to explainRead More the problem. No call for that but I did get a "survey" call about their automated system. We have also lived here for 20+ years and never had this many outages.
