New Housing Development Coming to South Livermore

City Council approves plan to develop 51 new houses on vacant land near Robertson Park. School district to gain $6 million in deal.

The City Council on Monday approved a plan to develop 51 single-family homes in south Livermore.

The residences will be built on 13.5 acres in the Vinsanto neighborhood near , just off Concannon Boulevard, near Pleasanton-based Ponderosa Homes.

The property was owned by the . The district planned to use the site for an elementary school, officials said.

However, enrollment projections show there isn't a need for an elementary school in that neighborhood, making the property surplus.

Ponderosa Homes purchased the land from the district for $6 million.

The Livermore schools can only use the money for facility improvements, said Susan Kinder, chief business officer for the school district.

Jeff Schroeder, senior vice president for Ponderosa Homes, said construction could begin in the summer or fall.

He is hopeful that model homes would be available to show in the spring of 2012.

Note: Council members Marj Leider and Jeffrey Williams did not attend Monday's meeting.
