Mayor Enters City Council Race
Marshall Kamena, who will be termed out as Livermore mayor this year, joins Bobby Burger, Stewart Gary and Laureen Turner as city council candidates.
Mayor Marshall Kamena has qualified as a candidate for the upcoming city council race in November, Livermore City Clerk Susan Neer said.
Kamena, who terms out this year as Livermore mayor, joins Bobby Burger, Stewart Gary and Laureen Turner as candidates competing for two at-large seats on the council.

Williams won his seat in 2007 against incumbent Lorraine Dietrich.
The other open seat belongs to Councilwoman Marj Leider, who was first elected in 2003 and will be termed out this year.

Gary is a retired Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department chief. He currently serves as a trustee on the Board of Education.

Meanwhile, the race for a new Livermore mayor is set with candidates Barbara Hickman, John Marchand and Minuete McKernan.
Hickman previously lost the mayoral race in 1999 to incumbent Cathie Brown.
Marchand currently serves as vice mayor. His latest term on the city council doesn't expire until 2013. Marchand was first elected to city council in 2005 after serving on the board for the Zone 7 Water Agency.
McKernan is a graduate of . She is currently a student at Dominican University in San Rafael, studying political science, according to her Facebook page.
The deadline to register to vote for this year's election is Oct. 24.
