Livermore to Hold Meeting to Discuss Livermorium Public Art

On Wednesday, July 16, 2014 the City of Livermore will hold a second public meeting to discuss the redesign of Mill Square Park and the proposed public art for the park.

The meeting will begin at 7:00 pm in the Sycamore Room at the Robert Livermore Community Center, 4444 East Avenue. The public is welcome to review and comment on the conceptual designs and how the art can be integrated into a renovated Mills Square Park.

Located in downtown Livermore at the southeast corner of First Street and South Livermore Avenue, the plaza will feature art commemorating Livermorium, the 116th element on the Periodic Table of Elements. The name of the element was chosen to honor Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's contributions to heavy and super-heavy element research.

Three conceptual art designs were selected out of 158 entries from 34 states. Mayor John Marchand unveiled the three finalists on Livermorium Day, May 30, 2014.

A copy of each of the conceptual designs, the artist's statements, and links to provide feedback are posted on the City of Livermore's Public Arts webpage. Residents who are unable to attend the public meeting are encouraged to share their feedback online.
