Transportation improvements have been a strategic goal of the city for years.

Livermore Mayor Marshall Kamena stated, ”The new interchange opening will not only improve the connection between Route 84 and I-580 thereby relieving traffic congestion at the I-580/I-680 interchange, but will also create a new second access route to and the local businesses and residences on the north side of I-580 while reducing traffic congestion at the Airway Boulevard/I-580 interchange. We could not be more pleased that this important milestone has been reached on this project.”

Completion of the new Portola Avenue overpass which will provide the final access route to the new interchange is still scheduled for Spring of 2012.

Electronic message boards will be placed along Portola, North Livermore Avenue and State Route 84 early next week to inform the public of the planned traffic changes and appropriate detour signs will be placed on other local streets.

In addition, Caltrans Public Information Office will be advising the public next week of the planned opening of the Isabel Interchange and closure of the westbound Portola on-ramp.
