How to Watch Amgen Tour of California in Livermore

A guide full of the information you need to know for the race on May 18.

The Amgen Tour of California will be rolling through Livermore this weekend. Here is all the information you need to know to if you plan to take part in the race events.

Mayor John Marchand says the Amgen Tour of California first rode through Livermore as a "pass-through" city several years ago.

"The Amgen Tour is now one of the top cycling races in the world and this year they chose to come to Livermore again for the start of the most decisive stage,"  Marchand said. "This event places Livermore in the international spotlight and demonstrates that Livermore can host a world-class event. With our beautiful hills and picturesque vineyards, culminating in the mountain-top finish, this promises to be the most exciting stage of the tour. This event also brings millions of dollars in economic impact for the entire region.  It continues to reflect the remarkable opportunities and quality of life that Livermore offers."

Lieutenant Lance Bye of the Livermore Police Department told Patch, via email:

"Motorists to please be informed about the closure areas and expects traffic delays and competition for public parking the closer people get to the downtown venue. Besides the downtown closures, no parking is allowed anywhere on Livermore Avenue all day. The best source of specific closure places and times is the Amgen news article on the City's homepage, which includes a phone number for people if they want more information. The vast majority of problems we have had in the past were uninformed motorists being diverted off their intended path of travel. There are many ways to get around the city, and motorists travelling to areas other than the downtown should avoid the downtown area completely. Closures of Livermore Avenue during the morning and afternoon legs will be as brief as possible, depending on the progress and span of the riders."

The City of Livermore released this statement and schedule of events for race weekend:

Michael Ford watch it on tv

Sandee Mitchell if sitting on the curb to cheer the bikers, PLEASE, take you trash with you when you leave. thank you

Susan Pereira Don't watch it on TV, it is so exciting......One year we watched them pass on the side of the road at South Livermore and Concannon....last year we watched at the finish line. The finish line was exciting!!!!!!

Missy Sandahl Silva Stay away from tassajara rd lol

Tina Porter Walk to the route & don't try to drive down small residential streets trying to get around it. Be smart and plan ahead! Many of my neighbors got stuck in their driveways because cars were blocked by the traffic that was stopped.
