Garbage, Water Rates to Increase

New rates to start on July 1.

Mark your calendar for July 1.

That's when garbage and water rates are scheduled to increase for Livermore residents, according to a report by the Valley Times Newspaper.

The new rates were unanimously approved by the city council on Monday. Officials said the rate hikes are needed due to residents consuming less water and recycling more trash, according to the report.

Further details from the article by Bay Area News Group Reporter Robert Jordan:

  • Garbage rates will increase between $3 and $6 per month for residential service, depending on the size of trash containers used. Residents currently pay between $14 and $80 per month for service. Commercial rates will increase by 13 percent.
  • Water rates will increase by 9 percent on July 1 and another 4.5 percent on July 1, 2013.
  • In January, customers will also be hit with a likely 7 percent increase, called a pass-through, that is a result of an expected rise in the price the city is charged by the Zone 7 Water Agency, the wholessaler the city buys water from. Dublin and Pleasanton have also implemented a similar charge.
  • Most residential customers will see their monthly bills increase about $10 from the current $64.19 to $74.15 in July 2013.

Rafael and his crew do great work, and not just lawn service. He replaced our sprinkler system andRead More sodded two new lawns when we moved into our house. He and his crew have trimmed trees, planted flowers, and even built a new fence and gate. All at a fair price. I can't recommend his services enough.
