Tri-Valley Mayors Attending U.S. Conference of Mayors in Washington

Tri-Valley's five mayors are at the 81st annual conference

Mayors from all over the country are meeting in Washington D.C. from Jan. 17 through Jan. 19 for the 81st annual United States Conference of Mayors. Mayors Tim Sbranti of Dublin, Newell Arnerich of Danville, John Marchand of Livermore, Jerry Thorne of Pleasanton and Bill Clarkson of San Ramon are among the 273 in attendance.

Sbranti, who talked about the conference during his most recent mayor's report, will be writing a guest column about the conference.

In the report, Sbranti said he and the others plan to discuss preserving Tri-Valley TV 30, which provides programming about local news, events and government for Pleasanton, Dublin, Livermore and San Ramon, during their Washington stay.

According to the agenda posted on the website, speakers of note include Vice President Joe Biden, Eric Holder, the Attorney General of the United States and Mayor Bloomberg of New York. Some of the hot topics scheduled for discussion will include: "job creation, fiscal cliff agreement and sequestration, gun control, threat to tax-exempt financing, Sandy response, immigration."

The U.S. Conference of Mayors Facebook page says it is "the official non-partisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more, represented by its chief elected official, the mayor."

You can follow them on Twitter at twitter.com/usmayors and the hashtag for the event is #usm2013. See the livestream of the conference by clicking here.
