Director of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Steps Down

U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell issued this statement.

LIVERMORE, CA – U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) released the following statement after Dr. Parney Albright, director of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), announced he will be stepping down at the end of October. LLNL, a Department of Energy National Laboratory, is the largest employer in Rep. Swalwell’s Congressional District.

“I join with the LLNL community in thanking Dr. Parney Albright for his years of service at the Livermore laboratory. Dr. Albright’s strong commitment to LLNL’s national security mission contributed greatly to the lab’s achievements in enhancing the nation’s defense, maintaining our nuclear weapons stockpile, and responding to scientific issues of national importance like alternative energy research.

“As the Congressman representing Livermore and the lead Democratic Member on the Science, Space and Technology’s Subcommittee on Energy, which has jurisdiction over national labs, I have worked closely with Dr. Albright.  He has consistently been a strong advocate for LLNL. He effectively communicated its vital mission to Congress to ensure the lab has the resources to continue its work. I wish him success in his future endeavors.”
