City Manager Announces Retirement

Linda Barton, who has served as Livermore's city manager since 2001, will step down from her post at the end of the year.

Livermore City Manager Linda Barton announced her retirement after
serving 10 years in that role. Her 35-year career in local government will come to a close at the end of the year, and includes service to the cities of Burnsville, Minn., Bedford, Texas, and Bellevue, Wash., before coming to Livermore in 2001.

Barton oversaw significant progress in the community at the direction the city council that included the revitalization of Livermore’s Downtown, construction of the Civic Center Complex, strengthening regional and statewide partnerships, and developing financial stability.

Barton has been proactive among local government professionals and has served as the President of the League of California Cities, City Manager’s Department and President of the California Redevelopment Association.

Livermore Mayor Marshall Kamena stated, “Linda has done an absolutely phenomenal job as City Manager. Her leadership and
can-do approach has made her a wonderful asset for our City.”

In an email sent to Livermore employees, Barton stated the most gratifying part of her work in Livermore has been “the opportunity to transform our community, to work with visionary elected officials, and a professional and innovative staff."

Barton earned her Bachelor of Sociology from Colorado College, she also holds a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Colorado.
