BART Strike Means Free Parking

Take advantage of one of the few bright spots of the strike.

The silver lining in the BART strike that is clogging highways and causing commute headaches Monday morning is this:

FREE PARKING!

There are 33 parking lots at BART stations across the Bay Area. They are exceptionally cheap to begin with, but for the duration of the strike, they will be completely free of charge.

"People can use them for casual carpool," BART officials said in an email Sunday.

Anyone with a BART parking permit will not be burned by the free parking. All permit holders will receive a refund for each day that the strike lasts.

While the lots will be open, elevators in the facilities will not be operational.

"Should someone get struck in an elevator, BART will not have proper staffing to respond," the email said.
