7 Additional Officers Planned in New City Budget

The city is projected to end this fiscal year (July 1) with additional money, which is planned to go toward adding additional , according to a report from the Contra Costa Times.

According to a staff report presented at a May 8 special meeting, the city expects to end the fiscal year with a positive position in its roughly $76 million budget. Additionally, the two-year budget the city could approve in June will include the addition of four new police officers starting July 1 and three more officers on July 1, 2013. The department has lost 18.5 full-time position over the last five years.

Livermore plans to fund the seven officers through savings from reducing costs in other departments — that includes consolidating the administrative staff for the economic development and city manager's departments and through attrition and leaving vacant positions open, Brown said.

The new officers will help the city patrol the that is scheduled to open later this year and to help stem an increase in , according to a staff report.
