UPDATE: Woman Rescued From Hotel Fire

Updated information from the Livermore Pleasanton Fire Department--

On June 21, 2013 at 10:37 a.m., the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department (LPFD) responded to the report of a structure fire at a residential motel style occupancy at 1321 Portola Av. in Livermore, CA. En route Alameda County Regional Emergency Communications Center (ACRECC – the dispatch center for the LPFD) advised of a woman trapped inside of a burning unit.

ACRECC was able to provide the victims unit number and location while firefighters were en route. At 10:40, LPFD Engine 97 arrived on scene and initiated rescue procedures.

They forced entry through a locked and deadbolted door to the involved unit and proceeded to the bathroom at the back of the unit where the victim was located and removed to safety.

The victim, an adult female, was transported via Paramedics Plus ambulance from the scene in apparent stable condition. The crew of Engine 97consisted of Captain Jason Solak, Engineer Ben Plake and Firefighter-Paramedic James Smith.

The report of the successful rescue was broadcast on fire department radios by Capt. Solak at 10:44. Two additional citizens were injured at this incident.

A male suffered smoke inhalation while attempting to rescue the trapped woman prior to fire department arrival. He was treated and the scene and released.

A female suffered a minor injury while evacuating an adjacent unit. She initially declined ambulance transport, but later in the incident was transported from the scene by Paramedics Plus at her request. Both additional citizens were in apparent stable condition.

No firefighter injuries were reported at this incident.The fire was contained by the First Alarm fire companies to the unit of origin and was extinguished within the first few minutes of this incident.

The unit sustained moderate damage due to the fire and was not inhabitable as a result of that damage. All units were evacuated during the fire and rescue, temporarily displacing approximately 15 residents.

For safety during the fire attack and rescue, firefighters shut down power and gas to the building. PG&E, building management and the City of Livermore are expected to work to restore those utilities to the unaffected units.

The origin of the fire is believed to be in the sleeping area of the motel room style occupancy next to the beds. The specific cause remains under investigation, but arson is not suspected. The victim rescued was the sole person present in that unit at the time of the fire.

A total of 4 Fire Engines, 2 Fire Trucks, the Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief and Battalion Chief responded to this incident for a total of 23 firefighters. Two ambulances and a Paramedic Supervisor from Paramedics Plus also responded to the scene.

Firefighters rescued a woman trapped in a hotel bathroom during a fire Friday morning at the Studio Inn Hotel.

The woman was taken to the hospital but is expected to survive, according to firefighters at the scene.

The fire broke out around 11 a.m. The hotel is at the corner of Rincon and Portola.

The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department will be issuing a press release with further details, and Patch will update this story.
