While Dad At Park With Kids, Burglars Steal $100K in Valuables

Suspects' truck possibly caught on security camera.

While a Livermore man and his children were spending an hour at a nearby park on a Saturday, burglars broke into their home, making off with nearly $100,000 of goods, including a 150-pound safe, a flat-screen TV they ripped from the wall and Muhammad Ali-signed boxing gloves.

"They ransacked the place," said a family member.

A neighbor's security camera caught images of two adult males and the white truck they parked on Scenic Drive on March 16, as they reportedly looted the adjacent home on Winged Foot Court.

The victims' home was locked; intruders smashed the rear glass door to gain entry, said a relative.

Along with the family's belongings, also stolen were jewelry, artwork, camera gear and electronics they were temporarily storing for the wife's parents. And gone with the swiped safe: cash, birth certificates, Social Security cards and other identification papers.

The suspects' pickup appears on video footage to be an extended-cab, late-'90s, two-door Ford Ranger with tinted windows, the victim said.

The family is hoping the public can help identify the suspects, or the items if spotted at pawn shops or for sale online. Anyone who may have witnessed or has information regarding the incident is encouraged to call the Livermore Police Department at (925) 371-4900, and reference case 13-1671.

Another speedy, costly break-in was reported by a Pleasanton family last week. Details here: Were Victims' Own Crowbar and Pillowcases Used in Their $36K Home Break-in?
