UPDATE: Livermore High School Students Released After Lock Down

Reports of threats seem to be on the rise this past week at Bay Area schools.

UPDATE: 4:11 p.m.: Livermore Police confirmed Friday afternoon that Livermore High School was locked down as a precaution around 3 p.m.

As of 4 p.m., students had been released and one police car was still at the school.

No further details were available, but there were reports of a possible robbery at a Bank of America in downtown Livermore about 40 minutes before the lock down.

According to a Patch reader Siobhan Tyler from Facebook, parents recieved an automated phone call from the school district about the incident.

Tyler wrote:

"Just received an automated message from the school district. There was a suspect that fled in the general direction of Livermore High. They put Livemore High, Junction, East Ave and St. Michaels on lock down at 2:45. They apprehended the suspect and lifted the lockdown at 3:10."

Tensions were already high in the school community about safety, as earlier today the public was concerned about someone who reportedly claimed they were going to bring a gun to a Livermore high school campus today. Posts on Twitter Thursday mentioned that someone had threatened to do this.

Tensions are high at many Bay Area schools following last week's massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.

On Thursday a parent of a Dublin High student contacted Patch saying they had heard of a bomb threat, but Dublin Police said it was just a rumor. Threats were also made to a school in Pleasant Hill on Monday.

Dublin Unified Superintendent Dr. Steven Hanke said Friday there was not a bomb threat and that school officials have been keeping a close eye on things on campus.

"We have been very vigilant on campus," said Hanke. "We are making sure there is an ongoing sense of calm to help keep the focus on learning."

In Oakland Friday morning, a series of phone calls to the school threatened students, a school district spokesman said. Hoover Elementary School went on lockdown around 9 a.m. after the school received multiple calls from someone threatening to harm students, Oakland Unified School District spokesman Troy Flint said.

School district and city police responded to the school and have formed a perimeter, Flint said.

The light bulb is back on. Ironically, it was a device that was installed to protect the bulb fromRead More power surges that failed. When the bulb was reconnected to unfiltered power, it came back on.

as well take advantage of it. What I'm talking about is a reasonable rate for charging that isRead More within going rates, not the usurious rates charged by certain companies. I always love the hundred yard heroes who hide behind a false screen name

I'm not a greenie.....the only reason we leased one is, because of the tax loophole on the taxes weRead More already pay, we have an essentially free car for a couple of years. Maybe you're just upset because you weren't smart enough to figure that out and take advantage of it. Just like everyone with their solar panels; if we're all forced to pay for it, you may

Wow. Did I say free?

Rafael and his crew do great work, and not just lawn service. He replaced our sprinkler system andRead More sodded two new lawns when we moved into our house. He and his crew have trimmed trees, planted flowers, and even built a new fence and gate. All at a fair price. I can't recommend his services enough.

Thank you D! We couldn't be happier to have a program like this in our community. We couldn't agreeRead More with you more that giving back is the whole purpose of the program; to make our community a stronger more musical one for our youth!

Kevin and Chris are good guys. They genuinely want to give back and care about introducing as manyRead More kids (young and old) as possible to the incredibly rewarding world of music. I am fortunate enough to have had somebody similar to these guys motivate me to get involved in music when I was a kid. 31 years later, I am still beatin’ on my drums every day. Great job Kev and Chris. Keep it up!
