Special Olympics Torch Runs Into Town

The Special Olympics torch will "rest" in town this weekend and take off on Monday.

Starting June 8th through June 22nd, 2012, Law Enforcement personnel from all over Northern California will come together to escort the Special Olympics torch, the "Flame of Hope" through Northern California on its journey to the 2012 Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games that will be taking place at U.C. Davis the weekend of June 22nd.

On Friday, June 15th the Tracy Police Department will run the Special Olympics Torch from Tracy over Patterson Pass to the Livermore Police Department. Tracy PD will leave at approximately 9:30 a.m. and run through their city, over Patterson Pass. They are expected to arrive at the Livermore Police Department at approximately 11:30 a.m. - noon. Livermore Police will assist in the escort of the torch from Patterson Pass and Greenville to the Livermore Police Department.

The Torch will ‘rest’ with Livermore and begin again on Monday, June 18th at 9:30 a.m. Members of the Livermore Police department will run with the torch from the Police Department, north on S. Livermore Avenue, west onto First Street, west onto Stanley Boulevard to the Nob Hill shopping center where they will hand off the torch to the East Bay Regional Parks Police Department. Please join us on our route and cheer on the Special Olympics Torch as it makes its way to the Summer Games!

There will be minimal impact to the traffic in the area of the run.
