Road Rage Killing: Girlfriend of Slain Fremont Man Arrested in Court

Roschelle Morgan, who had an outstanding felony drug warrant, was arrested at the end of the second day of Livermore-resident Cort Holbrook's murder trial.

A key witness to a Livermore road-rage killing was arrested after the second day of a murder trial, according to a report by the Bay Area News Group.

Roschelle Morgan, of Newark, is the girlfriend of Ricky Ziesmer, a felon killed by Cort Holbrook during a March 2011 road-rage fight in Livermore. She was arrested in court last week during her witness testimony, according to the report.

Further details from the Bay Area News Group report:

The defense's attorney revealed she had a $25,036 warrant for her arrest.

Roschelle Morgan teared up at the end of the second day of the murder trial as Judge Kevin Murphy explained in front of the jury that she would be remanded into custody for an outstanding felony drug warrant out of Napa County.

"Why did you still come to court despite knowing you could be taken into custody?" asked Deputy District Attorney Brian Owens.

"It was the right thing to do for Rick," Morgan said through choked sobs.

Morgan was in the passenger seat of the vehicle driven by Ziesmer when the road-rage incident began.

My vote: Self Defense

Hmmmm right thing to do? But a felony drug warrant ( such as selling drugs) is ok? Right thing to do would have been to wrap your arms and legs with all your might around your man and not let him leave the car to get into a fist fight...

She sacrificed herself to testify. She did the right thing. Looks worse for the defense than it does for the prosecution.
Joe Granada March 5, 2013 at 01:31 pm
Well, this doesn't do a lot to bolster the credibility of her story.

Nice headline news guy! Do you really have to write " a felon killed by Holbroock" Let me bro rest in peace, he was cleaning his act up!
TrueRealist March 7, 2013 at 07:24 pm
Cleaning up his act or not he was a felon. If he got his doctorate in helping kids and curing AIDs he's still a felon. A felon killed by Holbrook is in fact a properly titled article.
TrueRealist March 7, 2013 at 07:25 pm
The right thing would have been not having warrants in the first place. That's the wrong thing.
Quinn March 10, 2013 at 01:34 am
Well if Holbrook is found guilty of murder, then he too, will be a felon.
Ryan Sherman March 14, 2013 at 11:36 pm
He obviously didn't clean it enough. F'ing around on local streets where pedestrians expect to be safe was an extremely foolish thing to do. You play with fire, sometimes you'll get burned. I feel for you, but don't try to make excuses for him.

Wow, so quick to jump to conclusions and judge. Maybe T.G. BUYS the child's lunch. Every schoolRead More sells hot lunch every day. At the majority of our schools, more lunches are bought than given for free.
DeAnna Senft McDaid June 13, 2013 at 12:43 pm
The schools give us 2 options as parents. 1. Buying lunches on campus or 2. Send them with a lunch.Read More Clearly the author of this chose number 1 and the school was OUT leaving the child with NO 3rd option. Shame on that school.

A great issue! However, the rodeo is nothing but animal cruelty wrapped up as "tradition"Read More and "entertainment". Why would the animal's welfare become a concern now? Rodeo performers have been documented beating, kicking, and shocking normally docile cows and horses in chutes and holding pens. "Bucking broncos" and steers are provoked with electric prods, sharp sticks, caustic ointments, and the pinching "bucking" strap, which is what really makes them jump, they are not "wild" and "dangerous" . The cowboys earn points by spurring the bucking horse. I have seen them up close and many are bleeding. Calves, roped when running, have their necks snapped back by the lasso, often resulting in neck and back injuries, bruises, broken bones, and internal bleeding. After their short and painful "careers," animals in rodeos are sent to the slaughterhouse. Dr. C.G. Haber, a veterinarian who spent 30 years as a federal meat inspector, describes the animals discarded from rodeos for slaughter as being "so extensively bruised that the only areas in which the skin was attached [to the flesh] was the head, neck, leg, and belly. I have seen animals with six to eight ribs broken from the spine and, at times, puncturing the lungs. I have seen as much as 2 to 3 gallons of free blood accumulated under the detached skin." Every national animal protection organization opposes rodeos because of their inherent cruelty. Don't feel bad everyone, I used to love the rodeo too. Before I knew better...

Something to consider and not pushing it aside because I feel its unimportant, but what I'd love toRead More have access to is how the riders that were hurt are doing today. Two bull riders got gored, one in the back and he was down and out for a bit and then obviously not "okay" as he stumbled out of the arena and then another that got his leg hurt and he couldn't get himself over the gate on his own. Left saturday's Rodeo hoping they were okay and would love follow up if at all possible. Thanks!
