Pre-Trial in Teacher Sex Case Scheduled for Thursday

Livermore teacher accused of having sex with a former student due in court Thursday.

A pre-trial for former Granada High teacher Marie Johnson accused of having sex with a former student is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday in Pleasanton.

Previous pre-trial hearings have been delayed in the case.

Johnson, 41, faces charges of unlawful sexual intercourse with a person under 18, oral copulation and committing a lewd act on a child, according to court records.

She was arrested on Jan. 11 on 24 counts of sexual assault on a 14-year-old boy, police said.

Johnson, who pleaded not guilty to the charges on Feb. 23, is being held at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin in lieu of a $950,000 bail.

Thursday's pre-trial will be held in Department 703 of the Gale-Schenone Hall of Justice in Pleasanton.

Anyone that we trust with our children and she does something like this should spend the rest of her life in jail. HOW SICK. God bless your family. You need forgiveness. You will meet your maker and be judged in someday heaven.

Mike- You're an idiot. Sincerely, sarcasm.
Nick January 15, 2013 at 10:31 PM
That's jumping the gun and a little reactionary, don't you think? Throwing her in jail for life? That's extreme.

No offence but obviously that kid went back over a period if time ge is guilty on every way to we arnt talking about a little kid who cannot talk, what difference does it make if he had sex with a 13 year old girl he is old enough and knew better knew it seems like these high school boys are making a game out of seducing older ladies, she us Definally in the wrong for what she did she was married and had a family and she will forever live with this mistake as will the kid who chose to keep things going as well. You cannot point it fingers at one person an omelet them take all the blame. Mrs.johnson by far was an amazing teacher and without her help I wouldn't have come as far as I did in school she still deserves respect and well as her family!
michelle January 15, 2013 at 11:20 PM
Go auto correct =) haha point is I feel she's not the one who should take all the blame he has a voice to say no but he chose to keep things going to as well
Nick January 16, 2013 at 12:51 AM
My feelings exactly. He's not a victim. He's as much guilty as she is. I think it's time we stop treating children as victims in every single case like this. They aren't. They weren't forced to have sex, they did it of their own free will. They might not have known the consequences, but they were no victims.

@Nick I think your view is also a bit to extreme the other way. I agree that her actions are not the same as say a pedophile with a prepubescent kid, but they are still wrong. She was put in a postion of trust by parents and the community and she broke that trust in a very shocking way. The kid was (if I remember correctly) 13 and even though he probably did "consent" to that sex, he was taken advantage of as he could not understand the repercussions.

We don't know what happened. I doubt that the facts are as simple as you make them out to be, although everything is being kept so hush-hush that we will probably never know.

It's taken a year for the case to even get to pre-trial which is pretty unusual, the prosecution could have pushed for a much quicker resolution to this if they were totally confident in their case. I'd be very surprised if this ever goes to trial, most likely there will be a settlement of some kind, she'll get sentenced to something like time served and the public will never learn what really happened.

I dont trust anything she says, but at the same time i really dont trust what a kid says but the fact of the matter is she had sex with a kid when shes suppose to be an adult molding our young childrens minds, im def not saying the kid is innocent because he is just as guilty, but he dont have to worry about the consequences.

Do your homework, the prosecution isn't responsible for the multiple delays in this case, the defense is. As for the case never going to trial, that would be best for the victim and the defendant's family since the nitty gritty details are no ones business. She's guilty, admitted it and will serve her time. The need for any other details is just a morbid sense of curiosity.

Did this happen today?

Michelle Your view is flawed. You say this minor is guilty as if he is not being charged. The laws that address this in a civilized society are intended to protect as many as possible. That is why when an "adult" abuses a "minor" the adult is charged. You are trying to understand this "relationship" as an equal partnership which it not either emotionally or legally. The law rightfully does not view this minor as an equal in this relationship. The guilt is the adults to bear 100% And just so you don't think I'm shooting from the hip I'm a teacher with 17 yrs of experience and have extensive understanding of how the mind of a 13 yr old works.

I really have no idea of what "homework" you are talking about, all the details are being kept off the net. It seems that some people with the right connections on Facebook know some things that they aren't saying, but not being part of that clique I don't know what that might mean. If the prosecution has requested a quicker trial date and been turned down that has not been reported. Neither side in a criminal case has the right to delay trial indefinitely.

You don't know she did it. It is wrong of you to make statements stating her guilt because at the moment she is innocent until proven guilty. You don't have any of the facts or information. All that has happened is that the woman has been accused. Nobody knows the situation. The kid could be making it up for all we know. So you had better get the facts before you start posting nonsense like this.

There was a hearing on January 31. 15 of the 24 counts against her were dropped, she pleaded guilty to the other nine. She is scheduled to be arraigned on February 14--yes, Valentine's Day.

Joe Granada, you are WRONG: "She then pleaded NOT guilty to the nine allegations within the modified complaint". That is b ecause she is innocent and is waiting out the DA for them to continue to drop the charges as they see they have no case that will convict her.
Joe Granada February 11, 2013 at 08:58 PM
My apologies for the typo, of course Maurice is right.
