Police to Raise Funds for Special Olympics

Annual Cop on Top event to start Thursday in downtown Livermore.

Here's an announcement from the :

During the weekend of September 15-17, the Livermore Police Department will be conducting its third annual “Cop On Top” event to support Special Olympics.

Starting Thursday, Sept. 15, at 12 noon, members of the police department will begin sitting 30 feet off the ground on aerial lifts at the corner of First Street and South Livermore Avenue. They won’t come down for 60 hours, or until they raise $20,000. Sgt. John Hurd has vowed to stay on the lift the entire 60 hours without setting foot on the ground until we have raised the $20,000.

The event will be raising funds for our local Special Olympic athletes. All of the money we raise will stay in our local area and support our athletes. It takes $250 to sponsor one athlete for one sport. Special Olympics is a year round program that instills life skills, confidence, and accomplishment in our athletes.

During the weekend there will be activities occurring below the aerial lifts and we will have Special Olympic athletes stopping in to meet and greet those who come by to make a donation.

Last year the event raised over $17,000. This year we are shooting for $20,000. We are going to need all the help we can get. We hope that community members will reward our efforts of staying up on the lifts by making a donation in person or using the link below to make an online donation.

Livermore police officers and staff will be donating their time during this event. We will have police officers, civilian personnel, and LPD volunteers helping us to raise funds and raise awareness for Special Olympics.
