Police Seeking Help Identifying Daytime Burglary Suspects

Information from the Livermore Police Department--

On Thursday 6/20/13, two residential burglaries were reported in Livermore.  Both burglaries appear to involve the same suspects and suspect vehicle.

At approximately 10:15 a.m., LPD Dispatch received a call from a resident in the 700 block of Catalina Dr.  The resident had been away from the home for about one hour and returned home to find that the residence had been entered and jewelry had been stolen from inside.

Entry was made through a front window. A neighbor described seeing a white SUV, possibly a mid 90’s Mercedes Benz with a 2” wide black molding on the lower third of the SUV.  A male adult was driving the SUV and a Hispanic male (late teens/early 20s) was standing beside the SUV which was parked near the victim residence.

At approximately 10:51 a.m., a resident in the 5400 block of Kathy Way reported that two suspects had rung his doorbell and knocked loudly on his front door.  When he did not answer the door, the suspects made entry to the residence via a front window and were seen climbing through the window.  When the suspects realized the resident was at home they fled on foot
westbound on Kathy way.

A white Mercedes Benz SUV was seen parked on the west side of the
residence and left the area eastbound on Kathy Way just after the suspects fled from the residence.

Officers and detectives responded to the area, but were not able to locate the suspects.  Both suspects were reportedly wearing gloves.  A neighboring residence had video surveillance that captured the two suspects fleeing as well as the suspect vehicle.

The suspects were white or Hispanic males in their late teens/early 20s, one with a long sleeve white shirt and jeans and the other with a dark colored hoodie and cargo shorts.

Photos of the suspects fleeing the scene, and the suspect vehicle, are shown below.

No suspects have been arrested in either case, and both crimes are currently being investigated.  These burglaries are similar in nature to past residential burglaries occurring in Livermore.

These residential burglaries are primarily occurring on weekdays in the middle of the day in neighborhoods off of arterial roadways.  The suspects generally knock on the front door or ring the doorbell to determine if anyone is home at the residence.  If nobody answers the door, the suspects make entry to the home through unlocked windows or doors, by forcing doors open, or by breaking windows.  The suspects have been targeting jewelry and cash in most of the reported burglaries.

The Livermore Police Department wants to keep our community informed of these current crime trends.  The Department wants to remind our community members to be sure to secure their residences when they leave home even for a short amount of time.  Residents are encouraged to install alarm systems and security camera systems.  Everyone is encouraged to please call LPD Dispatch at 925-371-4987 to report any suspicious activity observed. Residents are encouraged to join existing Neighborhood Watch programs or start
a new Neighborhood Watch program to get to know their neighbors and take part in being on the lookout for suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.

With schools being on summer break, LPD is concerned that children who are left at home while parents are working, may have been instructed to not answer the door if someone is knocking on the door or ringing the doorbell.  This could lead to a burglar entering a residence occupied by children alone in the home.

LPD asks that parents discuss this scenario with their children and develop a plan of action.  Recommended actions would be to have the child view who is at the door from a location of safety.  If they do not recognize
the person at the door, they should immediately call LPD to report that an unexpected person is knocking on their door. The child could yell to the person that is knocking that they are calling the police. The child’s first call should be to the police.  Taking the time to call for a parent increases the amount of time it takes the police to respond to the scene.

LPD is diligently working to identify and locate the suspects in these ongoing burglaries.

With assistance from our community members, we hope to prevent future burglaries as well.
