UPDATE: Man Stabbed in Road Rage Incident Dies

Livermore man arrested after victim succumbed to injuries at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley.

A man died Wednesday after he was stabbed during a road rage incident, said Livermore police Capt. Steve Gallagher.

Officials are not releasing the man's name because his family has yet to be notified. The man is in his late 40s, Gallagher said.

Livermore resident Cort Holbrook was arrested on a murder charge and will be booked at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, Gallagher said.

Holbrook, 41, was found with a bloody face in a parking lot near the on Old First Street downtown. He had called police at about 1:40 p.m. to report the road rage incident.

While officers responded to Holbrook's call, other police also were en route to check on a report of a man with a stab wound.

The man had driven himself to the south entrance of the on East Stanley Boulevard in Livermore. The man was transferred to Eden Medical Center, where he died at 5:47 p.m., Gallagher said.

"He had a laceration on the left side of his upper torso," Gallagher said. "The injury looks consistent with that caused by a knife."

During the investigation, authorities blocked off the south entrance of ValleyCare, where the man's clothing and other belongings were scattered on the floor. The health center does not offer emergency services, which are based at ValleyCare's Pleasanton facility.

Police also took two small terrier-type dogs that were left in a gold 2002 Chevy Cavalier the man was driving.

Holbrook had an abrasion on his face when police arrived. He refused medical attention and was taken to the for questioning during the initial investigation.

Gallagher said the weapon they believe was used in the stabbing was found at the scene on Old First Street.

The incident does not appear to have been gang-related and an investigation is ongoing.
