Police Log: Man Robbed Of Red Cap; Drugs Stashed In Book; Son Steals Mom's Car...Twice

Notable incidents encountered March 25 to 31.

A and a stolen-vehicle chase topped Livermore police news last week.

But some smaller, quirkier crimes were also reported by authorities, including a mother terrorized by her adult son, contraband hidden in a hollowed-out book, and a man assaulted for wearing the wrong-colored hat.

A man wearing a red A's baseball cap and his girlfriend were walking Thursday night near Railroad Avenue and North K Street when they were approached by five to six males who asked for a cigarette, said Lt. Ava Garavatti of the Livermore Police Department.

The man was then asked "if he was a Northerner," Garavatti said, a reference to the Norteno street gang, which favors red clothing.

When he said no, the suspects assaulted him, stole his hat and fled on foot, she said.

The victim had minor visible injuries from the scuffle, and his female companion was unharmed, she said.

Ages or descriptions of the victims and suspects were not available.

On March 27, police answered a stolen-vehicle call on the 5000 block of Scenic Avenue made by a woman, who said her 23-year-old son had taken her car without her permission, Garavatti said.

When the son returned with the vehicle a few hours later, he became enraged that his mother had called in the incident to police and theatened that he would kill her, she said.

Fearing for her safety, the woman barricaded herself in a bathroom, called police once more, and soon learned her son had left again - in another one of her cars.

No details were available whether the son was apprehended, but Garavatti said his mom has gotten a protective order.

Possession of illegal drugs is a crime. And so is hiding them in a fake book, as one Livermore woman learned when police reportedly discovered her hidden stash of methamphetamine, prescription medications, pipes and needles.

On March 27, police arrested the 23-year-old on suspicion of controlled-substance and paraphernalia possession, along with an alleged violation of penal code 11366.8(A) - storing drugs in a false compartment - records state.

"She hollowed out a book and hid her dope in it," Garavatti said.
