Police Investigating Junction Avenue Shooting

Authorities say residents report up to six gunshots fired on Junction Avenue, near North K and Pine streets.

Police are investigating a shooting reported Monday night on Junction Avenue, near North K and Pine streets.

Officers were sent to the area at 7:07 p.m. after police received calls from residents reporting gunshots fired in the area, Livermore Police Sgt. Todd Madrid said.

Witnesses also told police that two vehicles sped off from the scene after the shooting.

Preliminary reports say the two vehicles suspected of being involved in the shooting are a light-colored minivan and dark-colored truck, Madrid said.

Officers at the scene found two bullet shell casings and shattered glass that appeared to have been from a vehicle, Madrid said.

Police at this time have no further information and have not received any reports of injuries.

Monday's apparent shooting is two days after police were sent to a reported stabbing near the McDonald's restaurant at Chestnut and North P streets.

Hmmm...The majority of people in this area are....?
Maureen Hamm November 28, 2012 at 10:01 pm
Let me finish that sentence. The majority of the people in this area are human beings like all of us. A few bad elements can happen in any neighborhood. Contact the city and get a Neighborhood Watch group going and contact the police if you witness suspected criminal activity. You can do it anonymously.

Opening a LPD substation in the nearly vacant stripmall on Chestnut would be a good start.
Ellen Blair November 29, 2012 at 09:35 pm
What a good idea!
Vel November 30, 2012 at 07:58 pm
All of these things could be resolved if LPD would follow up with anonymous tips.
I've reported many things I've seen n heard. Dispatch asks you a bunch of stupid questions, like if you're the perp.
More police needed in Livermore November 30, 2012 at 08:32 pm
The people of Livermore need to push the city management to fund for a gang/narc unit. They disbanded the unit awhile ago and look what is happening to the city.

Will all the revenue generated from the Paragon Outlets, this city should have no problem hiring more officers and get a handle on this area.

Sorry Maureen. When we moved into this area 20+ years ago, it was a pretty diverse area.A place where people took pride in their homes and properties. Not anymore. We have houses that rent to over 5 families and along with that comes their 20 cars. It is no longer safe to walk around here and we are the ones made to feel we are living in a foreign country, Many, and I say many are undocumented. We never had tagging, shootings, or stabbings in this area until it became more prevalent the last 7-8 years and it is only getting worse. It is unfortunate that the majority of the people won't get involved and as far as forming a neighborhood watch? Impossible when these same people that are the problems are living in your area. People are to scared. I can't wait to get the heck out of here!

Wow, so quick to jump to conclusions and judge. Maybe T.G. BUYS the child's lunch. Every schoolRead More sells hot lunch every day. At the majority of our schools, more lunches are bought than given for free.
DeAnna Senft McDaid June 13, 2013 at 12:43 pm
The schools give us 2 options as parents. 1. Buying lunches on campus or 2. Send them with a lunch.Read More Clearly the author of this chose number 1 and the school was OUT leaving the child with NO 3rd option. Shame on that school.

A great issue! However, the rodeo is nothing but animal cruelty wrapped up as "tradition"Read More and "entertainment". Why would the animal's welfare become a concern now? Rodeo performers have been documented beating, kicking, and shocking normally docile cows and horses in chutes and holding pens. "Bucking broncos" and steers are provoked with electric prods, sharp sticks, caustic ointments, and the pinching "bucking" strap, which is what really makes them jump, they are not "wild" and "dangerous" . The cowboys earn points by spurring the bucking horse. I have seen them up close and many are bleeding. Calves, roped when running, have their necks snapped back by the lasso, often resulting in neck and back injuries, bruises, broken bones, and internal bleeding. After their short and painful "careers," animals in rodeos are sent to the slaughterhouse. Dr. C.G. Haber, a veterinarian who spent 30 years as a federal meat inspector, describes the animals discarded from rodeos for slaughter as being "so extensively bruised that the only areas in which the skin was attached [to the flesh] was the head, neck, leg, and belly. I have seen animals with six to eight ribs broken from the spine and, at times, puncturing the lungs. I have seen as much as 2 to 3 gallons of free blood accumulated under the detached skin." Every national animal protection organization opposes rodeos because of their inherent cruelty. Don't feel bad everyone, I used to love the rodeo too. Before I knew better...

Something to consider and not pushing it aside because I feel its unimportant, but what I'd love toRead More have access to is how the riders that were hurt are doing today. Two bull riders got gored, one in the back and he was down and out for a bit and then obviously not "okay" as he stumbled out of the arena and then another that got his leg hurt and he couldn't get himself over the gate on his own. Left saturday's Rodeo hoping they were okay and would love follow up if at all possible. Thanks!
