Pleasanton Man Makes a Mess in Livermore

The 22-year-old man hit a fire hydrant in Livermore while driving under the influence.

A Livermore resident on the Livermore Patch Facebook page contacted Livermore Patch to share an image of a hit-and-run that occurred near her home and wanted to know what had happened.

According to Livermore Police, officers received a call at 2:44 a.m. on Oct. 14 that a green SUV had collided with a fire hydrant and a street sign in the area of Chateau Place and Angelica Way.

The collision caused the hydrant to become separated from the ground and the street to flood, Livermore Police Spokeswoman Traci Rebiejo said.

Livermore police conducted an area check and located the suspect, 22-year-old Pleasanton resident Joseph Hartman. Hartman was attempting to walk away from his car and showed signs of impairment.

After a DUI investigation was conducted, Hartman admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages and smoking marijuana, Rebiejo said.

Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department responded to the scene and turned off the water at its main, she said.

"I don’t have the cost of the clean up but we did need to call a street sweeper out," Rebiejo said. "It was a big mess with all the dirt/mud."
