Missing Livermore Teen Located

Livermore residents received automated calls this afternoon alerting them of a missing boy.

A Livermore Patch Facebook reader first alerted Patch that she had received a prerecorded call about a 13-year-old missing boy this afternoon, described as 5'7" and 140 pounds.

"The teen was located and his parents picked him up," Livermore Police Sgt. John Hurd said.

The phone calls received by some residents regarding the missing teen are a tool Livermore Police is using more and more, said Livermore Police Crime Prevention Specialist Nikki Aguon.

The calls are made on a case by case basis and phone numbers are provided by the local telephone service, Aguon said.

"We are finding more and more reasons to use it," she said.

Most recently, the calls were used to alert nearby residents of police activity and potential burglary suspects in the area, Aguon said.

The prerecorded calls have also been used in local mountain lion sightings.
