Both women were transported to hospitals after the crash on the North Livermore Avenue exit off I-580.

Two women driving a 1969 Chevy Impala were seriously injured after crashing their car on North Livermore Avenue Tuesday.

The women, both Milpitas residents, each sustained major injuries, according to Officer Steve Creel of the California Highway Patrol.

Neither was wearing a seat belt and both made contact with the windshield and metal dashboard, he said.

The Impala was traveling eastbound on I-580 shortly before noon yesterday when it exited North Livermore Avenue. It made it off the ramp and after striking a car in the intersection continued to move east where it hit a lamp pole.

The driver of the Hyundai Santa Fe, whose car was hit on the rear left-side while traveling northbound on North Livermore Avenue, complained of pain and was transported to Kaiser Permanente in Walnut Creek.

The scene of the accident was blocked for clean up and emergency services until about 1 p.m., Creel said.
