Police say Stockton man driving under the influence of alcohol crashes into big rig early Wednesday morning

A Stockton man suffered major injuries after crashing his vehicle into a big rig early Wednesday morning on westbound Interstate 580, CHP Officer Steve Creel said.

The man, identified as 20-year-old Enrique Torres, was taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, where he was evaluated and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, Creel said.

The accident occurred at 2:16 a.m. when Torres, driving a 2000 Nissan Sentra, collided into a big rig that was slowing down and preparing to exit onto the between Vasco and Greenville Roads.

"(Torres) apparently did not notice the slowing truck and rear ended the big rig, going underneath its trailer," Creel said.

Torres was wearing a seat belt. The driver of the big rig did not suffer any injuries.
