A domestic violence suspect was shot and killed by a police officer in Dublin Sunday evening after allegedly attacking an officer with a baseball bat, a police lieutenant said.

Officers responded around 6:15 p.m. to the reported domestic disturbance call at a home in the 7000 block of Dublin Meadows Street where they were met by a man armed with a baseball bat at the front door, Dublin police Lt. Herb Walters said.

He said the man immediately attacked one of the officers with the bat. "The officer felt his life was in immediate danger and fired several rounds at the suspect," Walters said.

Medical personnel responded to the scene but were unable to revive the man, who died from his injuries.

Police said an investigation into the officer-involved shooting is under way.

Walters did not say whether the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on leave.

You can't hold a police officer accountable for a split-second decision that they have to make--gun or tazer? It happens so fast, and it literally could mean serious injury or death should they fail to act too slow. They risk their lives daily to protect us citizens as well as respond to the person who made that domestic dispute call--somebody was likely in serious danger due to this man's actions involving a deadly weapon--baseball bat.

Mathew. Come on. The officer was getting attacked with a BAT!! Why tazer him? So he can do it again later next time he gets HI!! Don't go after a MAN WITH A GUN IF YOU ONLY HAVE A BAT. the gun wins.....
