Man Flown To Hospital After Reported Hit-and-Run

Officials say a man was taken to a hospital by helicopter after he was reportedly hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Holmes Street and Concannon Boulevard.

A 25-year-old man was flown to a hospital after he told officials he was hit by a vehicle while walking at the intersection of Holmes Street and Concannon Boulevard, Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department Battalion Chief Jeff Peters said.

Emergency crews were sent to the reported hit-and-run at around 10:35 a.m. Tuesday, Peters said.

However, officials said there are no witnesses to the incident.

The man complained of lower-back pain and numbness, and a helicopter was called to transport him to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley. The helicopter landed in a dirt lot on Concannon Boulevard across the Luckys Supermarket.

I hope the man will be ok! I'm a bit confused as to why a helicopter was called to transport him to a hospital in Castro Valley instead of an ambulance taking him to Valley Care. Anyone know why that would happen?
Megan June 12, 2012 at 04:14 pm
for the intersection to be a very busy one and no witnesses? sounds fishy.
Amanda Boulton June 12, 2012 at 04:16 pm
Eden is a trauma center, valley care is not
Megan June 12, 2012 at 04:18 pm
I am trying to comprehend that too-I am thinking he made up the story-maybe fell down the stairs or jumped off the balcony at the apartments-being there were no witnesses.
Jennifer P June 12, 2012 at 04:20 pm
Thanks Amanda!

That intersection is one of the scariest around. The lights are really long and regulars are always speeding thru yellow lights.
Dick June 12, 2012 at 04:56 pm
I agree with Megan, I have never seen that intersection when it was not busy....
Nathan21 June 12, 2012 at 05:34 pm
Wow, some of you people... Someone gets hurt and your fist thought is he's/she's not telling the truth. He/She's hurt ether way, what's wrong with you people... Think before you speak, it would probably help. Maybe something like I hope he's ok... Just a thought. SMH

I think he got dragged, cause about that same time when I was driving by and I am thinking it's the same guy between Catalina and Concannon at a bus stop there was a guy on the ground and he obviously could'nt stand up and a lady had stopped and called for help. It was a bit of a distance from that intersection.
Shelley Buchberger June 12, 2012 at 05:59 pm
That intersection has been so much better than when it was 84. Maybe he was in the crosswalk in front of the apartments? I find it strange that there were no witnesses. I live by there and there are always cars.
Jim Chu June 12, 2012 at 06:27 pm
I'm sure we'll know more after the doctors take a look at him. It's pretty obvious when you've been hit by a car and when you just fell down on your own.
For those who want to slow down traffic on their street - make a mock-up speed camera using an old trailer and a speed limit sign. People see these things and slow WAY down, even if they believe the city doesn't use them. They won't pay attention to those "Children Playing" signs, but they slow down for cameras.
Garneda Skinnell June 12, 2012 at 06:29 pm
Eden Hospital in Castro Valley is the trama center for this area.
Spat26 June 12, 2012 at 06:45 pm
He was transported via helicopter because he was complaining of back pain and numbness a possible spinal cord injury. Eden Medical center is better equipped to handle those types of injuries than Valley Care.
Barbara Hebert June 12, 2012 at 06:52 pm
When there is possible multi truama event you want them to transfer you to the nearest multi trauma center in this case it is Eden hospital
Ashley June 12, 2012 at 06:53 pm
Anyone know the guys name?
Liz Gully June 12, 2012 at 07:07 pm
It's quite possible to have no witnesses at that time of the day. Things do quiet down in the late morning and now that school is out, there are fewer moms running around. And Jim is right, the doctors will be able to tell if he was hit vs some other injury. I hope he's okay and if he was hit, they find the person who was a coward and left the scene.
Denise June 12, 2012 at 07:46 pm
Maybe he fell off one of those trees in front of the apartments because I drove by there about 30 minutes before that and they were trimming the trees this morning! Was he wearing an orange shirt?
RedDogLead June 13, 2012 at 12:06 pm
Eden Hospital in Castro Valley is a major trauma center facility---perhaps his injuries were serious enough to take this treatment option.
Wendy Grant June 13, 2012 at 12:07 pm
Why are you guys doubting this?? That is a bad intersection. There are speeding cars, not some just sitting there watching. Not a lot of foot traffic either. A man was hit, he didn't commit a crime. Paramedics are trained and no what a guy it by a car looks like, blood pressure, vitals and surface wounds. They don't just take you to the trauma center on your word. Not a lot of compassion here people.
Joy Montgomery June 13, 2012 at 03:36 pm
I think the way the article was written opened the door for the odd reaction. Saying that the man told them he was hit by a car and that there were no witnesses gave the impression that the reporter didn't believe the story. I was happy to know that he was talking, whoever he is.
Missunderstood June 14, 2012 at 06:41 pm
I was hit by a car in that intersection. No witnesses came forward..even though someone had called 911.
Missunderstood June 14, 2012 at 06:47 pm
Um wow. People here are unbelievable. A man is hit and taken to a trauma center. Do you think they would have airlifted him to a trauma center because he "claimed" to be hit by a car? Obviously he had serious injuries.
I was hit by a car crossing the street in that exact intersection was taken to a hospital all jacked up. and no witnesses came forward! Not one! Even though someone called 911. Seriously folks..What is the matter with all of you??

It isn't up to the gov. to help raise your kids. The stork didn't drop the kid off unexpectedly. IfRead More you can't afford kids then don't have them.

Wow, so quick to jump to conclusions and judge. Maybe T.G. BUYS the child's lunch. Every schoolRead More sells hot lunch every day. At the majority of our schools, more lunches are bought than given for free.
DeAnna Senft McDaid June 13, 2013 at 12:43 pm
The schools give us 2 options as parents. 1. Buying lunches on campus or 2. Send them with a lunch.Read More Clearly the author of this chose number 1 and the school was OUT leaving the child with NO 3rd option. Shame on that school.

A great issue! However, the rodeo is nothing but animal cruelty wrapped up as "tradition"Read More and "entertainment". Why would the animal's welfare become a concern now? Rodeo performers have been documented beating, kicking, and shocking normally docile cows and horses in chutes and holding pens. "Bucking broncos" and steers are provoked with electric prods, sharp sticks, caustic ointments, and the pinching "bucking" strap, which is what really makes them jump, they are not "wild" and "dangerous" . The cowboys earn points by spurring the bucking horse. I have seen them up close and many are bleeding. Calves, roped when running, have their necks snapped back by the lasso, often resulting in neck and back injuries, bruises, broken bones, and internal bleeding. After their short and painful "careers," animals in rodeos are sent to the slaughterhouse. Dr. C.G. Haber, a veterinarian who spent 30 years as a federal meat inspector, describes the animals discarded from rodeos for slaughter as being "so extensively bruised that the only areas in which the skin was attached [to the flesh] was the head, neck, leg, and belly. I have seen animals with six to eight ribs broken from the spine and, at times, puncturing the lungs. I have seen as much as 2 to 3 gallons of free blood accumulated under the detached skin." Every national animal protection organization opposes rodeos because of their inherent cruelty. Don't feel bad everyone, I used to love the rodeo too. Before I knew better...

Something to consider and not pushing it aside because I feel its unimportant, but what I'd love toRead More have access to is how the riders that were hurt are doing today. Two bull riders got gored, one in the back and he was down and out for a bit and then obviously not "okay" as he stumbled out of the arena and then another that got his leg hurt and he couldn't get himself over the gate on his own. Left saturday's Rodeo hoping they were okay and would love follow up if at all possible. Thanks!

Thank you! That is what we want to know too. We have had more power outages this week than in theRead More 20+ years total that we have lived in this house!
Lynn June 8, 2013 at 07:03 pm
It would be nice to know, indeed. When my husband called to report the outage the recording saidRead More there were no outages in our area, which was clearly incorrect.
AT June 9, 2013 at 06:00 pm
I got the same thing, no outages when I called. I requested to be contacted by PG&E to explainRead More the problem. No call for that but I did get a "survey" call about their automated system. We have also lived here for 20+ years and never had this many outages.
