The Lucky Supermarket on Holmes Street was temporarily ordered to shelter-in-place Monday while police searched for a reported armed man, Livermore Police Sgt. Erin Cole said.
At around 7 a.m. police received a report of a man who brandished a handgun toward a resident on Sierra Court, near El Caminito and Holmes Street.
The resident told police the armed man attempted to steal a bicycle.
"When the resident attempted to detain the subject, the suspect produced a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the victim," Cole said.
The suspect then took off running southbound on El Dorado Drive, the victim told police.
The nearby Lucky Supermarket was ordered to shelter-in-place as a precaution.
"(Lucky) was open for business and we have had situations before where people go into the supermarket to try and blend in with other customers," Cole said.
Police conducted an exhaustive search and were unable to locate the suspect, Cole said.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 18 to 20 years old and was last seen wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt with white lettering and blue jeans.
An investigation is ongoing and police continue to pursue potential leads.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
