Livermore Police: Two Arrested in Walnut Street Shooting

The Sunday shooting was not linked to the attempted murder that day, police said.

The second of two shootings in less than 24 hours in Livermore over the Veterans Day holiday weekend had Livermore Police apprehending a known gang member.

The first lead to the arrest of 26-year-old Paul Victor Simmons (aka Paul Muscat) for attempted murder among other charges.

The second lead to the arrest of 23-year-old Celene Resendiz of Tracy and Juan Carlos Preciado, 23, of Livermore.

"The two Sunday shootings were not connected at all," said Livermore Police Officer Steve Goard. "It is just coincidence that the two shootings took place in one day. Two shootings in a single day are rare for our city."

According to Livermore Police Department stats, the number off reported shootings are not up this year compared to last, Goard said.

Recendiz and Preciado's arrest were a result of a Livermore Police officer patrolling the area of North Livermore Avenue and Walnut Street Sunday, Nov. 10 at 2:00 a.m. The officer noticed a black car parked on Walnut Street in the roadway, with its headlights off, Livermore Police said in a release.

"The officer turned around to investigate the vehicle parked in the roadway," police said. "As the officer drove towards the black vehicle, two loud gun shots were fired from inside the black vehicle."

The black car fled the area and the officer attempted a traffic stop, the release said. The suspect failed to yield and attempted to evade the office.

The suspects, Resendiz of Tracy and Preciado, 23, of Livermore collided with a PG&E power pole in the 600 block of Sixth Street, where officers apprehended them, police said.

After an extensive search of the area, the handgun used in the shooting was recovered.

LPD Officers were unable to locate any victims or determine what the intended target was of the shooting, however, Preciado admitted to possessing and firing the firearm, police said.

Preciado, a documented gang member, is on parole for Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He was arrested for the following charges:

  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Prohibited Person with Ammunition
  • Discharge of a Firearm from a Vehicle
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Violation of Parole
Resendiz was arrested for Evading the Police with Reckless Disregard for the Public.

Both Resendiz and Preciado were booked into Santa Rita Jail.

The investigation is ongoing and the Livermore Police Department is seeking the
community’s assistance in locating any possible victims or witnesses in this case.
