Livermore Police Officer Rescues Elderly Woman From House Fire

The officer found the elderly woman lying on the floor in the master bedroom and carried her out.

A Livermore police officer rescued an elderly woman from a burning house Tuesday night, police said today.
Multiple calls came in to 911 around 8:50 p.m. Tuesday reporting the fire at 820 Grace Street, and one caller reported an elderly woman trapped inside the home, according to Officer Steve Goard.
Officer Brian Sleeper, the first officer on the scene, was alerted by neighbors of the woman inside the house and immediately kicked open the front door and ran inside, Goard said. Sleeper found the woman lying on the floor in the master bedroom and carried her out of the house, Goard said.
The woman received medical attention at the scene but was uninjured, Goard said. The fire's cause remains under investigation.

Anyone with information on the fire is encouraged to call Livermore police at (925) 371-4900.

Not sure which representative from LPD gave the statement , but the details are far from accurate. I live in the neighborhood and was there, along with many of the other neighbors before police or the fire dept arrived. Agree that officer Sleeper did a great job. First off the house was not on fire. It was a shed in the backyard that was very close to the house and the master bedroom where the officer did not pick the woman up off of the floor?! The elderly woman was handed to him by one of the neighbor ladies who found her in her room at the back door staring at her husband while he attempted to put the fire out. The neighbor lady knew she was ill and unable to walk hurriedly out of the house. Wonder why no mention of the many neighbors that jumped in-the one who hopped the fence to help the husband cause the gate was locked. The 2 neighbors on both sides that fought with hoses from their own backyards. The teenage boy who ran in the house behind the officer and neighbor woman and checked rooms for other people and animals, or the neighbor who also ended up In the ER that night with a leg injury after colliding with another neighbor as he they were running up to the house. Even injured he was attempting to break in the door when Ofcr Sleeper arrived and took over. There were neighbors who brought out blankets to keep the lady warm and then offered their own home as shelter from the cold and chaos outside. Awesome examples of true neighborly etticit all the way around! Thanks be to God for directing those involved and that everyone is okay with minimal damage.

Good to know LPD didn't do anything right and it was all citizens who saved the day.
