Livermore Officer Honored by Attorney General

Officer Traci Rebiejo is a recipient of the Attorney General's Commendation For Outstanding Performance Award.

Officer Traci Rebiejo is a recipient of the Attorney General's Commendation For Outstanding Performance Award, officials announced Wednesday.

Rebiejo, who joined Livermore police in 1992, serves as the department's traffic safety education officer. She is credited for Livermore police's aggressive stance regarding occupant protection, child passenger safety, seat belt compliance, and DUI enforcement/education.

"Through Traci's guidance and motivation, we regularly enforce child safety violations, conduct routine car seat inspections, and actively work with seat belt campaigns," Chief Steve Sweeney wrote in a nomination letter to the attorney general's office. "Officer Rebiejo has introduced some very creative ideas for parents and children to be more cognizant of passenger safety and has become a common household name when it comes to child seat laws."

Some of Rebiejo's outreach programs regarding traffic safety include:

  • Back Seat Challenge — A competition between two schools in an attempt to get elementary students to ride in the backseat of their parents' cars.
  • Parking Education Enforcement Program —Officers routinely frequent all Livermore schools looking for unsafe driving, parking, and picking up of Livermore children.
  • On every second Thursday of each month, Rebiejo conducts a monthly child car seat "Fitting Station" in front of the police department.

"I got recognized, but really there’s so many other people behind the scenes that helped us do all these programs," Rebiejo said. "I was very excited and honored. I do have to give credit to the traffic unit and all the volunteers that have helped over the years."
