Officials ID Livermore Man Killed in Big-Rig Crash on Highway 84

A man killed in a big-rig crash on state Highway 84 Saturday in the Sunol area has been identified as 29-year-old Todd Rizzo, of Livermore, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal collision, involving a jack-knifed big-rig, was reported at about 5:45 p.m. just east of Interstate Highway 680 near Sunol in unincorporated Alameda County, the CHP said.
A Sigalert was issued shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday, according to the CHP. The cause of the accident remains under investigation, the CHP reported.

I drive this road everyday and can't fathom how a big rig, traveling at speed, would begin to jackknife. This is terrifying to think about.

Where exactly did this take place? Was it over by the nursery on the east side of 680 where Calaveras Rd. pops out or actually on 84 east of 680 where it heads towards the nuclear plant?

There should be weight limits on that portion of 84 to prevent big rigs from traveling on it. The big rigs get to routed to 580.
