Livermore Man Arrested on Suspicion of Assaulting Pig at Alameda County Fair

Reports say James Anthony Horn, 22, was arrested after witnesses said he struck pig on the head and buttocks and pulled the six-month-old pig's ears and tail.

A 22-year-old Livermore man was arrested Tuesday at the Alameda County Fair for allegedly slapping a show pig and pulling its ears and tail, according to a San Jose Mercury News report.

Further details from the article by Bay Area News Group Reporter Robert Jordan:

James Anthony Horn, 22, was arrested at 7:50 p.m. in the barn area by an Alameda County Sheriff's deputy after witnesses said Horn hit it with his hand on the head and buttocks and pulled the six-month-old pig's ears and tail, according to court records.

Horn appeared in Pleasanton court Friday and was released by a judge, but was ordered to stay away from the fair, to not drink alcohol and to attend Alcoholic Anonymous meetings twice a week, according to the report.

Or he should at least abstain from eating bacon.
Doctor K July 06, 2012 at 10:46 PM
Hahahaha... NO BACON FOR YOU!
Mike S July 06, 2012 at 11:14 PM
Pigs protecting pigs...love it.
Cherry July 06, 2012 at 11:14 PM
WHAT? How about ejecting him from the fair? Arrested? REALLY? WOW
Doctor K July 06, 2012 at 11:26 PM
Acting like a drunk idiot gets you arrested... who knew?
fairgoer July 06, 2012 at 11:29 PM
Yes. Arrested. Not only did he abuse the animal, he poured alcohol on another. When asked to stop and leave barn area, he proceeded to continue harrassing the animals. In addition he was drunk and provided alcohol to an underage friend. There were several witnesses to the abuse of the animals. Every year these animals are raised by kids in 4h and every year these animals get harrassed by the general public. People need to respect the animals and all the hard work our children put into these animals.
Cherry July 06, 2012 at 11:42 PM
OKAY! Now I get it! I don't approve of providing alcohol to minors. I never go over there because it stinks! I didn't know this was a common occurrence.
Doctor K July 06, 2012 at 11:48 PM
Cherry: that's too bad, they have some really beautiful peacocks there :)
Cherry July 07, 2012 at 12:13 AM
Sandy July 07, 2012 at 01:36 PM
The bottom line is the kids love the animals. We visit them every year. Pig, chicken, cow , dog..... It's an animal nonetheless. Have a little damn respect!! God ..... What a bunch of idiots defending another idiot!!!!!!!
Doctor K July 07, 2012 at 01:41 PM
Sandy: who defended him???
Owl July 07, 2012 at 01:44 PM
I love the fair but can not stand tools like this. Love that he got jacked up.
Mr. Pickles July 07, 2012 at 02:34 PM
@Sandy' With all due respects nobody is defending this little drunk jerk. If you read the comments everybody with a few exceptions are goofing on him. We love the fair and we love the kid's committment to the animals. We just don't care for this little drunk goof. enough said.
Sandy July 07, 2012 at 03:06 PM
Cherry suggested he just be ejected from the fair..... It needed to go further than that. And personally..... I don't find it funny whatsoever. I know some of those kids who take care of those animals. So I'm a little defensive , yes!!!
Julie July 07, 2012 at 03:31 PM
The guy was a drunk idiot and the animals should be respected. The kids are raising those animals to be sold for slaughter.
4-H Mom July 07, 2012 at 03:32 PM
As a Mom to a 4 H kid it really upset us to see this. Our kids spend countless hours and ALOT of money raising these animals. If this jerk had made this pig unsellable because he bruised the meat on the pig, then who is going to pay for it? I'm sure a 22 year old drunk doesn't have an extra $900(minimum) to pay this kid back for damaging he pig. These kids are basically running businesses and this should be considered damaging personal property and animal abuse. We would certainly not like it if someone went by and keyed your car when you were trying to sell it, right? It's a similar situation. Not only that we were there that night and some of the dads asked him to leave the pig alone and he only got more obstinate. So, as a parent of a 4H kid...yes it is infuriating for this to happen!
Lovelife143 July 07, 2012 at 05:04 PM
Doctor K is a idiot why don't you go to the auction and see for your self what these animals go for these young kids have so much time and have worked very hard to get these animals to the fair so do a little research before you post inadequate information
Aunt Bea July 07, 2012 at 06:05 PM
Doctor K get off the couch and get a life. Maybe you paid $25 for a hog in 1960. The average price the hogs sell for at the auction is about $3.00 a pound. Do you know how to do math? You would multiply $3.00 x the weight of the hog. Let's say the hog weighs 300 pounds. That you idiot is $900.
Doctor K July 07, 2012 at 06:12 PM
Oh my gosh it makes me feel so bad when random people on the internet call me an idiot... hahahaha.
David soto July 07, 2012 at 06:29 PM
your tax dollars at work -- newspapers and their editors need help.. news should be separated into sections -- 2 at the very least 1. serious and noteworthy -- 2. who gives a shit and comedy. this one falls under the ladder... for the record a person who attacks any innocent animal shouldn't be arrested however sent to the nearest hospital and checked in. there is something wrong with you people -- what is in the water up there.. all of you, go have your wells checked..
Robin Ray July 07, 2012 at 06:31 PM
Poor Spamlet!
Mr. Pickles July 07, 2012 at 08:06 PM
@David soto, What gives; Yesterday you were defending a violent psychopath and today it's some little creep who abuses farm animals. You must have a big heart for loathsome fiends and rapscallions. Maybe your calling in life should be a counsuler or public defender. As for newpapers and editors they need help because declining readership. And as you know we all receive that zone 7 water. If you have ever tasted it you can just guess what they put in it.
Harry Callahan July 07, 2012 at 08:58 PM
Whenever an idiot does something stupid you can bet the house alcohol was involved.
Bret July 08, 2012 at 02:13 AM
At David Soto: before you post another ignorant rant, please, for the love of God, take an English class. "this one falls under the ladder"? Seriously? Was it a step or extension ladder? I like that the Patch posts the idiots name so that maybe he will be a little bit embarrased by his actions (as he should). Pouring beer and slapping animals is a sign of pure social retardation. Let's hope he can get the help he needs.
Roxanne July 08, 2012 at 03:01 AM
Mike S., your comment is offensive.
Mr. Pickles July 08, 2012 at 03:42 AM
@Bret: You should tread lightly when if comes to the literacy level of todays young adults. Public education in this country is atrocious. And thanks to people like Pete Stark and the teachers unions it will never get any better. I work with people who can barely spell, construct a proper sentence or do some basic arithmetic. I wonder how in hell did they ever graduate from high school much less have a degree from college. As for that drunk little creep who slaps pigs. He should spend the rest of his summer mucking out livestock stalls. And on weekends he should hold a sign out in front of Safeway with a dunce cap on stating "I abuse animals for kicks" Thats the only help he needs.
Mark Tarte July 08, 2012 at 05:06 AM
Yes, that is where our meat comes from Julie, not Safeway. But many times persons at these auctions will pay the money and return the animal to the 4H member or FFA member. Most do go with the buyers and many are turned into dinner, but not all. Former 4H'er and FFA member.
AHaney July 09, 2012 at 06:34 PM
As a former. 4Her and FFAer in my opinion the issue here is not the slapping of the pig!!! The real issue is allowing alcohol in the barn area this is an event for minors!!!
Mr. H July 13, 2012 at 06:19 PM
Yes sir!!
