Livermore Man Arrested on Felony Animal Neglect Charge After Pets Found Living in Waste and Filth

The apartment on Murrieta Boulevard where a bull dog, a terrier and a cat were living was in such a bad state that it was condemned.

A Livermore man was arrested Wednesday on a felony animal neglect charge and his apartment was condemned after police discovered his two dogs and cats were living in a sea of their own waste.

Arrested was Jerry Ramos, 49, of 1087 Murrieta Blvd.

The investigation began in June, after someone reported the smell of feces and urine coming from the apartment.

The Animal Control officers could see a French bulldog and cat at the residence but could not find anyone responsible to talk to.

After getting a search warrant, police had to force their way into the apartment at 11:55 a.m. Wednesday, where they found a 1-year-old French bulldog, a 14- year-old Yorkshire terrier and a white Persian cat.

Officers were immediately overcome by the smell of urine and feces, according a press release issued by Livermore Police, which stated:  "The entire apartment was covered in filth and garbage. The apartment doorways were blocked with garbage filled bags and clutter. The animals were allowed to urinate and defecate all over the apartment, so the entire surfaces of the floors were covered in waste."

The animals were taken into protective custody. They were treated at a local veterinarian hospital and then transported to the East County Animal Shelter in Dublin, where an Alameda County Sheriff's Department spokesman said they are faring pretty well despite their ordeal.
