Teen with Lighter Sticking Out of Pocket Arrested on Suspicion of Arson

Police officials say the 17-year-old admitted to being responsible for all of the recent fires in Livermore and was arrested on eight counts of arson.

From Livermore Police Department:

On Monday, June 9, 2014, about 2:00 p.m., an officer from the Livermore Police Department was patrolling when he saw Livermore Pleasanton Fire Department responding to a grass fire in the area of Elm Street and K Street. The officer was aware of the recent string of arsons that had occurred in Livermore and responded to the scene.

Once on scene, the officer saw a UPS Driver, who was doing regular business, and a juvenile on scene. The UPS Driver was contacted and said the only other person on scene was the juvenile.

The officer contacted the juvenile and while speaking with the juvenile, could see a lighter sticking out of his pocket. The juvenile initially denied starting the fire but admitted to being at some of the other fires. The juvenile ultimately made admissions to being responsible for all of the recent fires.  The juvenile was ultimately arrested for eight counts of arson.

The Livermore Police Department is requesting if anyone has any information to call the Livermore Police Department at (925) 294-7531.  LPD would also request residents be vigilant during this drought season and call 911 immediately if they see a fire.
