Injury Accident Blocks Lanes on Interstate 580

Multi-car accident expected to cause delays on eastbound I-580.

Bay City News Service

A multi-car accident on Interstate Highway 580 in Livermore blocked two eastbound lanes late Tuesday afternoon, a California Highway Patrol
spokesman said.

At about 5:56 p.m., CHP responded to a four-to-five car accident on eastbound Interstate 580, just west of Greenville Road, Officer Peter Van Eckhardt said.

The CHP issued a Sig-alert at about 6 p.m., closing the two far left lanes as fire crews assess all the people involved in the accident, Van Eckhardt said.

Several minor injuries have been reported but everyone is expected to survive, the officer said.

Both lanes are expected to reopen by about 7 p.m., Van Eckhardt said.

Drivers are advised to take alternate routes.

Every time I turn around, I see another accident on the freeway. Can people just please slow down a little! And stop tail-gating each other! WTH!

It the idiots that have to weave through traffic to get two cars ahead that do it. They don't care about the carnage they leave behind. I was appalled the other morning when I was going onto the freeway at airway at how many illegal things that were pulled by people not wanting to wait in the metered line. We need more officers monitoring those onramps. I couldnt believe there weren't any accidents then.

I certainly agree with the previous comments. I call these people "prairie drivers'. They are always looking for open spaces. The trouble is, they don't give a damn about anybody else. Courtesy left our roads, a long time ago. Admittedly there are some good & considerate drivers, but we are becoming the minority..

I know what you mean. This week has been especially awful. I would say at least 75% of the vehicles using the carpool lane at the metering line are single occupancy vehicles. It seems like the more and more people are doing it... Very frustrating.
