I-580 Collision Kills One, Injures Another

The collision occurred after 3 p.m. east of Livermore. The survivor was airlifted to the hospital.

One person was killed and another seriously injured in a solo-vehicle crash down a hillside along westbound Interstate Highway 580 east of Livermore this afternoon, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The car went off the roadway and down an embankment near Carroll Road just after 3 p.m., CHP Officer Kevin Bartlett said.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and another person was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries, Bartlett said.

The westbound portion of the I-580 freeway was shut down around 3:45 p.m. for about 15 minutes to land the helicopter, according to the CHP website.
