Homeless Man Doubles His Court Time With New Arrest

Already on Tuesday's court calendar, Livermore transient adds to charges.

A Livermore homeless man should have an easier time making his already-scheduled Tuesday court appearance on drug charges, now that he is back in custody following his arrest last week at on Las Positas Road.    

Elvis Wells, 27, was free on his own recognizance for a Pleasanton drug bust when he was re-arrested on June 8 on suspicion of burglary and shoplifting at Walmart by the .

Wells was arrested at 11:30 p.m. after Walmart security officials called police to report Wells was observed stuffing jeans and shirts into his jacket, and a lanyard into his pocket, Lt. Matt Sarsfield said.

Wells reportedly left the store without paying and admitted to store employees and police that he had no money to pay for the goods, Sarsfield said.

Wells was taken into custody and transported to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, where he is being held on $2,500 bail.

He is scheduled to enter his plea at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Dept. 704 at the Gale-Schenone Hall of Justice in Pleasanton on the alleged burglary and shoplifting charges, along with answering to four drug counts  from a previous arrest in Pleasanton.

The Pleasanton Police Department had previously arrested Wells on suspicion of possessing methamphetamines, drug paraphernalia and being under the influence of controllled substances, according to Alameda County Sheriff's Office records.

For those charges, the courts had previously freed Wells on his own recognizance.

Court records did not have the date and details of the Pleasanton arrest.
