Hit-And-Run Suspect at Large Following Injury Crash on I-580 Near Livermore

Officials say the collision occurred at about 11:25 a.m.

The California Highway Patrol is seeking the public's help in identifying the vehicle and driver in a hit-and-run collision that injured a 25-year-old driver on westbound Interstate Highway 580 in Alameda County this morning.

The collision was reported at about 11:25 a.m. on westbound I-580 just west of Grant Line Road between Livermore and Tracy, the CHP said.

Witnesses said the suspect vehicle was traveling between 65 and 79 mph in the second lane from the left, when it swerved to the right striking the left side of a 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, according to the CHP.

The force of the impact sent the pickup truck traveling to its right, where it crossed lanes of traffic and then went off the freeway, striking a sign before overturning several times down an embankment, the CHP said.

The truck eventually came to rest on its wheels on the Grant Line Road on-ramp to westbound I-580, the CHP said. The driver of the pickup, 25-year-old Modesto resident Thuy THi Thu Nguyen, suffered major head injuries during the crash despite wearing her seatbelt, the CHP said.

Nguyen was airlifted to Eden Medical Center for medical treatment due to the severity of her injuries, according to the CHP. According to witnesses of the crash, the suspect vehicle is described as a dark-colored, possibly black, vehicle.

There will likely be damage to the right front portion of that vehicle, the CHP said. The suspect vehicle was last seen continuing westbound on I-580 following the crash, the CHP said.

Anyone with information on the suspect vehicle or driver is urged to contact the CHP at (707) 551-4100 or (925) 828-0466.
