High-Speed Chase Ends at Dublin, Livermore Border

Pursuit that began in Oakland ends when suspect surrenders to CHP on Interstate 580 near El Charro Road.

A man led the California Highway Patrol on a high-speed chase Thursday across the East Bay as he traveled at speeds in excess of 100 mph on several freeways between Oakland and Livermore, a CHP officer said.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office contacted the CHP at 7:51 p.m. to request assistance pursuing a suspect who was traveling in a 2010 BMW sedan, officer Peter Van Eckhardt said.

The man, weaving across all lanes of the freeway at speeds of 80 mph to more than 100 mph, led the officers on a chase that began on Interstate Highway 880 in Oakland, Van Eckhardt said.

As the man navigated his way deeper into eastern Alameda County, zipping along I-980 and eastbound I-580 and occasionally crossing into the center divide, he placed several phone calls before deciding to surrender, Van Eckhardt said.

"Apparently he wanted to get his life in order before he pulled over," he said.

The chase ended when the man, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was taken into custody at 8:23 p.m. near El Charro Road, which is between Dublin and Livermore, Van Eckhardt said. After surrendering to the CHP, he was turned over to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.
