Heavy Traffic Expected for Opening of Paragon Outlets

The new Livermore outlets shopping center is set to open this week.

Here's information provided by the Livermore Police Department:

The Livermore Police Department is excited to be a part of the grand opening of the Paragon Outlets located on W. Jack London Boulevard at El Charro Road in Livermore. The Paragon Outlets will have their grand opening this Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. It is anticipated that there will be a large volume of shoppers patronizing the outlets on the opening day, as well as throughout the rest of this opening weekend.

We would like to alert our community members to the possibility of traffic delays in the area of this new mall throughout the weekend. We would like to remind drivers in the area to drive carefully and be aware of pedestrian traffic on and near the roadways. Traffic on I-580 near the Paragon Outlets will likely be very heavy throughout the weekend.

The Livermore Police Department also wants to remind shoppers to secure your vehicles while you are shopping. Try not to leave valuables in your vehicles, and if you must, make sure to secure these items in the trunk of your vehicle or out of sight. We will have additional staffing working throughout the weekend at the Paragon Outlets to keep traffic flowing efficiently and to provide security to the outlets and the parking lot.

For more information on the grand opening events and a store list view this previous Livermore Patch post.

Aside from the 580 freeway exit, are there other roads we can take to get there if we are in Livermore or Pleasanton?

And sooner or later the commuters will discover that, too and turn northwest Livermore into a traffic nightmare just like the commuters in south Livermore do with Concannon. My hope here is that the traffic engineers do something like lengthen the signal times at Isabel and Jack London and Murrietta and Jack London, even Arlington and Jack London to the point that the timing of these lights discourages commuters out there from using Jack London as an alternate route to I-580 when it gets clogged with commuter traffic. And then comes the problem with Pine Street from Murrietta to "L" Street, where it could also be used to extend the Jack London commute route and put the commuters right smack in the middle of a residential neighborhood where there are only stopsigns controlling the traffic, not stoplights. It will only be a matter of time before a resident on foot or a child playing in their neighborhood or walking to school will get hurt or killed because some commuter in a hurry driving at least 5 mph above the posted speed limit runs into them in the rush to get to work or wherever else they need to go in their car.

Not to mention the increase of the local crime rate. People will come from all over the county to theses outlets for not only the shopping, but to see what else our nice town has to offer. The statement in the article about putting valuables in the trunk says enough, but should we only be worried about that in the parking lot?

Hey Califoridactor...... Nice post, selfish very much "not in my backyard" mentality. What did you and the other Livermore folks like your city council think would happen?? You take already congested freeways and then add a destination shopping location but don't want the traffic and headaches associated with it. "Yes we will accept everyone's tax dollars but sorry you can't use our roads". Lol at you and your greedy council for approving this mess. My hope is that your traffic engineers who appear to be brain dead will do as you suggest further causing more delays and headaches. Do you really think it will stop those "trouble making commuters"?? Get a clue. It's great, yet another example of greed. Your job creators did a good job with this one.

The Livermore police should have been out there directing traffic! Those exit ramp lights were a nightmare and I saw 3 CHP officers standing there doing NOTHING!! Had someone been directing traffic maybe it would have not been so bad! On top of that Stanley Blvd is still being landscaped and is down to 1 lane either way. Really sucks for the locals trying to get around!

I totally agree with you, livermoresbrightest!!! WTH were they thinking!!! I cannot stand what our city council is doing to our city!! Shame on them! Greedy AND stupidity equals disaster. I saw this coming the day I heard this outlet was coming in. How on earth is anyone surprised at the traffic mess this has brought to an already congested stretch of highway? Now if I simply want to head to Dublin for my favorite cupcakes, or go to Sports Authority, I have to figure out either another route or figure out the best time of day to avoid this mess. Our city council are idiots. Hope some of those tax dollars are earmarked for more police officers...... Because we're going to need it!!!
