UPDATE: Kitchen Fire Sends Man to Hospital
Firefighters on Wednesday contained a small kitchen fire at an apartment on Chestnut Street, off North Livermore Avenue.
A man was taken to a hospital Wednesday night after a small fire erupted in a kitchen at an apartment on Chestnut Street, off North Livermore Avenue, officials said.
At around 5:40 p.m. emergency crews were sent to the area near North I Street for a report of a possible structure fire, Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department Battalion Chief Chris Johnson.
The small blaze was contained shortly after fire crews arrived on scene.

A cause of the fire is under investigation, but it appeared the small blaze was due to a cooking incident.
The man taken to the hospital was treated for smoke inhalation, officials said.

There are unconfirmed reports that the man taken to the hospital evacuated children from the apartment during the blaze and attempted to put out the fire with buckets of water.
