The fire burned 400 acres before it was contained about 3:30 p.m.

Bay City News -- Firefighters have contained a large grass fire that burned close to Interstate 580 in the Altamont Pass area near Tracy this afternoon, a Morgan Hill Cal Fire captain said.

The fire charred more than 400 acres just west of Grant Line Road. It was first reported around 1:15 p.m., Cal Fire Capt. Tim Main said.

The fire was contained at about 3:30 p.m. The 30 mph winds made the blaze difficult to control, he said.
