UPDATE: Highway 84 Brush Fire Contained

Firefighters on Thursday afternoon battled a wind-driven brush fire on Highway 84, behind Ruby Hill. The blaze shot large clouds of smoke into the air, which traveled throughout the Livermore area.

UPDATE: 4:52 p.m. The blaze is under control and nearly out after burning 5 to 10 acres of brush, according to a report by the Valley Times Newspaper.

The fire began at approximately 2:50 p.m., according to the report.

UPDATE: 3:08 p.m. a battalion chief reported the fire has been extinguished and that crews are now in the mop-up phase of clearing the blaze, according to a report heard on a police scanner.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Firefighters apparently are battling a wind-driven brush fire on Highway 84, behind Ruby Hill, that has shot large clouds of smoke into the air.

Reports from Livermore Patch readers on our Facebook page said the smoke has traveled throughout town, and can be seen in the downtown, Portola Avenue and Springtown areas.

Reports heard on a police scanner said no structures or homes are threatened by the blaze. It appears the Alameda County Fire Department is also assisting the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department in containing the blaze.
