UPDATE: Man Dies in Solo Crash on Interstate 580

Officials investigating accident that left a 39-year-old Riverbank man dead at First Street on I-580.

A 39-year-old Riverbank man died early Wednesday in Livermore after driving off an Interstate 580 roadway and crashing into a concrete pillar, officials said.

The solo-vehicle accident was reported at 2:27 a.m. at the eastbound First Street overcrossing, California Highway Patrol Officer Steve Creel said.

The man, later identified as Brandon Tucker, was driving a 2006 Chevy Silverado and for unknown reasons allowed the pickup truck to veer to the right and off the roadway, Creel said.

"He went head-on into a concrete pillar," Creel said.

It also appears Tucker was not wearing a seatbelt during the crash. He was the only person in the truck.

Tucker, who was extricated from the truck by emergency crews, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No lanes were blocked and traffic was not affected during the crash, Creel said.

A cause is still under investigation and officials are awaiting results of an autopsy.
