District Attorney to Review Tied-Up Toddler Case

Police refer the case, which made international headlines last week, to the Alameda District Attorney's Office for review.

The Alameda District Attorney's Office will decide if a Pleasanton preschool teacher will face criminal charges for using masking tape to bind the hands and feet of a 2-year-old girl who refused to nap at the Centerpointe Christian Preschool.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Pleasanton police officials say they submitted a completed investigation regarding the incident, which was reported to them on March 4, to the Alameda County District Attorney’s office.

They wrote, via email:

"They [the District Attorney’s Office] have taken the case under submission to determine if criminal charges are appropriate based upon the facts of the case."

Angela Calcagno of Livermore started working at the preschool in June 2008 and is a student at Cal State East Bay studying psychology, according to a staff profile on the Centerpointe website. She is currently being investigated by the Department of Social Services and has been banned from working with children pending the department's final evaluation of what happened.

Patch has been unable to reach Calcagno for comment.

The he had no knowledge of the incident until it was reported to the center and to police. He had already resigned from his post at the school in February.

In an email, Centerpointe Christian Preschool wrote:

"Centerpointe cooperated with the Police Department. We are focusing on the preschool opening tomorrow. Our staff team has had three-and-a-half days of quality training including attendance at the statewide early childhood education conference as well as sessions presented by Las Positas College instructors Laura Reno and Jeanne Virgilio. The staff has made some adjustments to the program to better serve the children and their families. We are looking forward to welcoming them Wednesday."

Yes "Concerned for Humanity" (aka. double digit) we should just convict her and throw the key away. I can smell far lefties and righties a mile away. The lefties are especially easy meat, because they are only have 3 cards in their hands-- lies, deceit, and emotion-- all in the spirit of Joseph Goebbels. And the group of far-left intellectuals you speak of are comprised mostly of sociopaths and megalomaniacs who think THEY know what is best for humanity (thus your handle in this forum). You are the folks who are all about social justice and equality, twisted to the delusional point that 'everyone wins', as long as it is on your terms. And all you are doing with your 'retarded' philosophy is setting up generations of children for major dissapointment, much like your commander is doing to the country now. If you like that so much, you should seriously move to one of your lefty pilot projects called San Francisco. That liberal-generated cesspool is your vision for our country. By all means take your children there to live, but just never let them out of your site as one of your city dwellers will steal them. What you "Concerned for Humanity" will never realize is that what people like you are doing to the future of our children is far worse than anything this teacher 'allegedly' did. But you can't understand any of that, that is something called logic, and beyond your double-digits.

Hey Amazed, you do know this isn't the courthouse, right? It's also funny I say the intellectual people I know can have a decent conversation without berating, and you say "And the group of far-left intellectuals you speak of are comprised mostly of sociopaths and megalomaniacs who think THEY know what is best for humanity." So because I don't berate people, I'm a far-left sociopath megalomaniac? You say I'm the problem with society? For being so intelligent, you sure are missing the point of a forum. This isn't the judge and jury, this is opinions. See Amazed, the problems with society start at the bottom, not the top. It's people like you that are the problem. No respect for other people's views, passing judgement on your fellow people around you because your better than everyone else. You've never been wrong in your life, and will never admit it either. Your better than us weak minded lemmings. As you've stated, you also have a farther reaching intelligence than us. You can run our country better. You can make decisions on court cases. So sure of yourself in every decision. In every which way, shape and form better. Much more in the spirit of Goebbels.

By the way, what I'm doing for children is far worse than what this teacher did? Let me guess, your children are growing up knowing they are right in every decision, and when shown otherwise yell, scream and fight. Everything has to be their way or a meltdown occurs. If they get second place in a foot race, the first place kid cheated. Excuses are second nature, as well as talking back to their teachers and other adults. If they don't have an answer, they make one up. Soon enough people give up on teaching because it's always an argument, berating and swearing. So they grow up with no skills that they think they're experts at, and will continue to go through life judging others and having no skills or experience to back it. If I'm teaching my kids wrong in your eyes, I'm glad. I'll be comfortable and wrong.

I'm interested in finding how this utlimately turns out. This school had a couple things going on, a director that is accused of sexual harassment and resigned and a young teacher taping a childs’ hands and feet for nap...I don't believe the "school" is as responsible as these two employees who made very poor decisions and are accused thereof. But none of this should be part of any preschool. I appreciate the Patch for reporting the news here in the valley...
